Odd.....

When idling at a stop light today I felt an odd sputter and as soon as it started it stopped. Generally have a very smooth idle. The Check engine came on. Bit later the transmission went into 1st ad the check engine light began to blink, then it stopped, went back to solid and the car seemed to drive fine. Ive replaced the MAF in last 18-24 months as the CPS in the last 6 months. Ideas....? Will have codes pulled this week to know for sure.
Thanks as always,
MMM430

Thanks for idea but nope. All motor mounts less than 20 months old and dont believe a blown motor mount would cause a check engine light to appear. Appreciate the idea though. Anyone else? Does a blinking Check engine mean anything specific. Of course it would seem obvious that it is more dire than a solid Check engine light. Since it happened by the way, the light is gone and car seems fine.....? Who knows

funky102...I think you may be onto something. Got 93K on original wires and plugs and I've been contemplating a DIY.

Original? The plugs are 5-years / 100K, whichever comes first. It is a simple DIY job. When I did mine, I left the wiring harness and the plug wires attached on the coil end. On the driver's side, it's easier if the windshield washer reservoir / heater is removed.

Marcus,
Yeah I know its shocking. Its pretty much my fault. I've been wanting to make it a DIY project but admit there is an element of fear that has me putting it off this long. I'll give it a go in next few weeks. I know there are several differing opinions on here but curious what plugs, wires you used?
Thanks,
MMM430

My local dealer sold me a set of plugs for $120. I have a spark plug wire puller tool, so I didn't need new wires.

If I needed a set of wires, I'd buy a Bosch set for $185 (part number 09850) @ www.rockauto.com. If you look it up by car, they recommend Densos for $300+

H Marcus, with the plusg replacement, is it necessary to replace the fuel filter at the same time? I spoke to a mechanic when I first got my 55 about this and he said it should be done. What do you think?

They aren't related. Every 4 years or 60,000 miles (whichever comes first) the fuel filter should be changed. Every 5 years or 100,000 miles (whichever comes first) the plugs should be changed. If they are both due, they should both be changed, but if only one is due, that one "should" be changed.

Although it wouldn't hurt to change one or the other early. It may not be beneficial either.
