altenator replacement

I need to replace my altenator, any tips on doing so. I know it looks pretty easy with 2 bolts to remove, but are there any clues to help me out?

This tells you how to fix the most common problem, and it includes an R&R.

it says to loosen the drive belt(serpentine belt) where, is there a roller that pivots to loosen it or what. I got the bolts out but the belt is holding it in. loosen it how, it is still rather tight.

On the bottom of the belt tensioner is a nut. Rotate it counter clockwise and the belt will loosen. I do this from under the car with a breaker bar. Others do it from the top.

Thanks it worked. My last car had that feature. Any ideas on a double din radio, this cassette is so outdated, plus the last owner removed the c/d changer. Bose systems can only be used with certain head units, i heard, so any ideas?

Here are two web pages I put together about my radio.

This is what I did.

This is why I did it.

With a $15 converter, a Bose system (amps and speakers) can use just about any head you want. Double DIN, single, it usually doesn't matter. Just pick a head unit and have at it. Do you have steering wheel controls?

OK, that's pretty much what i wanted to know. So you can use just about any head unit with the PAC conversion. i do have steering wheel controls, and they work. Also the phone is still in the car.

If you're looking at a D-din HU, I have to suggest the Kenwood Excelons for the money and what you get.

I personnally have a DNX812 (without nav) and it's been probably the best HU I've purchased in the last 5 years, next to my old Alpine 7998. The 13-band EQ, time alignment, and surround features make the Kenwood alone worth every penny.

I will probably make a decision in about 2 months or so, but just trying to get a clear picture of what I need. Kenwood is a good choice, I bought an amp in 1984 that keep riunning till 1997. So we'll see thanks.

Usually, the alternator doesn't wear out. The normal-wear, $25 voltage regulator is what wears out and stops working. My voltage regulators last about 70,000 or so.
