Retrofitting My CLk with Command 2.0

Hey everyone I just recieved my German Spec Command unit along with a CAN Bus simulator and GPS Antenna from a fellow in Germany today. I will be installing this in to my 98 CLK320. I wonder how the tv function will work. Anyone know?
I'll take some before and after pictures for you to see.

Ok, you have a [few] issues which you ought to think about,

1) Now the CANbus similator is available, you can at least install it without taking apart the dash board area, fusebox etc [i.e you can use the power harness for the Radio stuff] - in fact, you may not need the CANbus similator, because you should have CANbus even for the Audio-30 steering wheel controls.
[BTW. MB have a CANbus "decoder" for use when fitting normal stereos to the latest CAN only cars]

2) To fit TV, you need a new rear-windscreen - only COMAND equiped cars have TV aerials in the rear windscreen. You could [of course] fit a different external aerial. You'll also need TV tuner module [for your country - I dunno where you are] and the rear wiring loom [stuff from COMAND backward for TV, CD player etc]

3)My stuff at www.ibex.co.uk/mbstuff *may* help you if you are trying to put stuff in in the "standard" way

4) I presume you bought a COMAND from a CLK, if not, you wont have quite the correct mounting brackets, so you'll have to improvise

5) If you are in USA, you'll have the CD player wiring pre-installed, you'll have to change the connector on the head-unit end, if you need help shout and i'll find the pinouts and the part numbers for the 10pin connector and the inserts.

Shout if you want some clarifications etc, although Im going to be out of contact for a couple of weeks from mid next week.

Cheers

Hi, The 8 pin connector is 003 545 75 28
The pins for it are 008 545 55 26

The connector is for the CD power, the wakeup lead (blue/black) and for the video inputs

European COMANDs for CLKs are
(0) Very early (MY1999 and before) 208 820 30 89
(1) MY2000 208 820 37 89
(2) MY2001 208 820 34 89, replaced by 208 820 40 89
(3) MY2002 208 820 44 89

(US models, add one to the 3rd pair of numbers, but there never was a 41 89 unit)

The MY2000 is full of bugs, the 2001 is pretty good but apparenty has voice recognition issue, for which there is an update CD part number W 215 589 00 22 00.
MY2001 supports SMS, 2002 same but better map input and better SMS handling. SMS is text messaging on GSM phones. I have MY2002 comands in both our cars, even though the CLK is a MY2000, so that proves you can use the newest ones in older CLKs.

NOW, I beleive (but have never tested) that you can probably install the update CD on any COMAND system, including US ones, and you'll get the TV function and the european MY2001 (fixed) software.

You should be able to order that CD at the dealer. Note, Im pretty sure the part number starts with W not A (as i think its classed as a tool)

you need one of the 003 545 75 28 (which is the plastic connector shell) and then up to 8 of the 008 545 55 26 parts (which are the metal bits in the connector shell), depending how many wires you need to connect.
(You need at least 2 or 3, but they are only a few cents each, so buy a few extra)

Connector C1 pin 6 goes to a red/black lead (+) to the CD changer, Connector C1 pin 5 goes to a brown (-) lead to the CD changer. The other pins in C1 are RGB Sync and Ground for the video input.

The blue/black lead from the CD changer goes to connector C2 pin 10 (thats the wakeup lead).

(Im going to be away from the forum for up to a couple of weeks from a few hours time, so Im unlikely to reply any further)

Hiya.

The metal bits are very common and used all over the car [including in the C2 connector on COMAND], so your dealer shouldnt have any hastle with those.

I dont see why you should have problems with the 8 way C1 connector shell either

These clowns can't seem to find the part number

Do you know any other place this conncetor might be used in order to give thes guys a reference point.
the only thing they can find is the entire wiring assembly.
which is outrageously priced at 2600 dollars.

If they hit the F6 key on their electronic parts catalog when they have a picture of the loom on the screen it will probably show them all the bits of the loom. However, the catalog is not useful for finding the part numbers of connectors or the metal inserts.

Im sure that part number is correct, so just tell them to order you one, it should be a couple of dollars.

That loom price is way OTT. The rear loom for TV (with both C1 and C2 connectors) and all the aerial cables that runs from COMAND to the back of the car [see part number on my stuff about fitting TV mentioned in earlier post] and TV tuner was about 200 pounds = 300 dollars.

The dealer is pissing me off

The dummies won't order the part because their computer tells them that it is not a vaild part number.
Looks like I'm going to have to consult one of my German contacts.

clk Retrofit

Richard,

I have been reading your posts with great interest, and as soon as my dealer is back up and runnning(I'm in Salt Lake City, and everything has shut down for the Olympics) I will have them pull all the schematics I need for the retrofit. But can you tell me what A208 820 35 89is? Is that a replacement for the A208 820 30 89.

thanks

Steph, 35 89 is the US version of 34 89 - i.e the MY2001 COMAND system with US software in it.

Gareeb, it is just possible that the part has been replaced/changed with something else. Drop me a note in 2 weeks time if you havent got one, and i'll go find one off an old wiring harness I have. [Im away on business in 5 minutes time, and my family wont be able to find it]
If you'r asking a German dealer, get them to look the part up from scratch again
