That Z110bt is pretty sweet, especially for the prices they are going for now they were well over $1200 a year ago. How come you didn't go for the Z120bt? They are about the same price, strike a deal?
Yeah the 120 is sweet but I couldn't resist the z110bt at 675-shipped Brand new in sealed box. It was a steal. I love the fact that it has tilt too considering how low they are seated in our cars.

Quick question from a newbie. Hooked up a new HU w/ the SOEM-4 but I'm getting crack and popping noise when I raise the volume or bass hits or highs.

It's not the speakers for sure.

Thanks

I think its the grounds.

Black wires: HU ground -> PAC SOEM ground -> harness ground?
or
HU -> harness?

also what is the dimmer wire color on the Mercedes side?

Whomever has installed this setup . Do your speakers sound louder with the new head unit or does it still sound the same as factory system before? Im assuming your still using oem amp and speakers if not dsiregard .

Ive seen this setup for the w210 also but when I asked my local shop when I installed a Sub and Amp in the trunk they said it couldnt be done< using the steering controls> and I told them that I have seen posts from here that ppl have actually done it and worked . They told me buy the components and if it works they will do the labor half price just for the knowledge but wont warrenty the work since I would be supplying my own parts . I'd like this setup also as I cannot stand the OEM setup .. also with the new screen so you lose your phone system >? sorry not tryin to jack the thread just curious

Don't use any of the power feeds through the pac just speaker leads only.
I didn't use the dimmer.

MBFLO:
Its loud and you can turn it up way louder without distortion. Transforms you system completely makes the crappy bose sound good. I was so surprised with it i kept with the OEM speakers and just added a 10" sub to the rear rack. Let the headunt crossovers/EQ do the rest of the work.
MB Phone system you loose, i beleive the one that came with the car is obsolete anyways. New headunit has bluetooth.

I agree that the sound quality is improved vastly, I love it. If anyone is debating on wether or not to have a new HU installed, just do it. Easy and great upgrade in sound quality. Hoping to get a 10 or 12 inch Boston acoustics sub with a separate amp (for the sub) hooked up using RCA's from HU.

Need to get a custom bezel made so if anyone could tell me what a good price for fabrication is.

My problem is above volume:45 I start getting distortion and popping/crackling from any source, including CD's. HU is not to blame nor speakers...so I concluded it's the ground.

I grounded the wires like this
(used only bare wire and crimps for speakers...no RCAs)
HU ground (black) -> SOEM input ground (black) -> ground goes through SOEM on board I'm guessing -> out ground (black) -> Harness ground (brown)

Is it possible that I hooked up the power ground instead of a speaker ground?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Just run a separate solid ground straight to the HU to avoid any unknowns.

Sounds acceptable with the original Bose amp and PAC converter, but I ran 3 sets of RCA to the trunk in anticipation of adding an amp for mids/highs some day. I did upgrade both sets of speakers in the doors. I'm running Infinity BassLink sub in the trunk. Sounds pretty good.

If you get the Pioneer mount cage with bezel, it looks nearly factory without any custom fab. Tip: you can put a custom boot image on Pioneer, so I put a Mercedes logo like most new cars do.

My Sirius antenna is inside the medical kit bin on the back deck, works fine. My GPS antenna is in the right front corner of the dash, between dash / windshield / A-pillar, looks OK. I ran the mic up to the stock location by the mirror, but I seem to get a lot of background noise, so thinking of moving it near the gauges.

The PAC OEM converter unit also has gain screws on it to adjust the input level from your HU going to the factory amp. Mine are set pretty low. You might want to play with that if it's distorting.
