MP3 interface for W208? Scosche FMMOD02 Universal Fm Modulator

MP3 interface for W208? Scosche FMMOD02 Universal Fm Modulator

This is not a transmitter/broadcaster.
This is a hard wired emitter, patched in-line of the radio antenna cable.

Has anyone installed/used one of these in a W208 year 2000 ?
Seems I hear something about fiber optics being an issue with some mp3 units, or something.

Here's a link to the unit:

Thanks

I've used that exact one. It sounds OK.

Theres no problems hooking into the bose cassette headunit. The sound quality with all FM modulation the hardwired ones, still leaves alot of sound quality to be desired. Its generally muffled and you have to crank your headunit pretty high to the event switching back to regular FM broadcast is extremely loud.
Its a temp solution, but for some ppl maybe just OK.

Basically, it takes the left and right channels from the MP3 device and modulates (i.e. translates) it to an RF signal in the FM band. It will work, provided that one of the two channels it provides (see manual) is free of interference (from a broadcast station in your area).

However, the MP3 stereo source will be received as a monaural broadcast :-(.

Here is why......basically, the left and right MP3 source channels will only provide the baseband input and none of other required multiplexed signals (e.g. sub channels, pilot etc.). See below.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FM_stereo

Additionally, there is no difference between this product and those that transmit the signal to be picked up by the car's antenna. However, by providing the means to connect directly it inline might take away some reception variables (e.g. fading, placement etc.).

I just use one of those $8 cassette adapters and it sounds great. Hint: because the cassette door needs to be closed for the Bose cassette player to work, I fashioned a small plug to insert into the micro-switch hole so that the door can be open (e.g. not crimping the wire to the MP3 device).
