1999 CLK 320 Coupe
I just drove 5 hrs each way from Vermont to NYC this weekend and plan to again for labor day. Hitting a deer is one of my nightmare scenarios! Glad you're alright.

Well, our home is on a lake and borders a state, and a national park. It's a beautiful environment, and we have seen up to 8 deer grazing and in recline on our front lawn. Similarly, I regularly see deer crossing the road and have plenty of time to slow down, but, the deer that you hit, apparently, leaps directly in front of the car, running in from the side, and you have absolutely no warning. So, I have learned that a deer strike is not at all like the multiple times that you see deer crossing the road. It is an instantaneous, unavoidable incident.
I also do these roads on my Harley, and, after decades of riding without a helmet, I think it's time to strap one of those things on. If this had happened on my bike, I definitely would have been seriously F'ed up.
Now, saying all of this, I knew I was OK immediately after the impact of the deer on my CLK, and the next immediate thing was a feeling of pity for the poor creature. Deer are meant to be admired, viewed, hunted, eaten, but not torn to pieces by a car strike. The poor creature.
In a nutshell, a deer strike is unavoidable-it just happens.

Thanks for your concern. I appreciate it.
Appraiser was out today, $5.024.90.
I saw some pieces fly off of the deer, but could not find the deer. Sheriff said they are very resilient, and will disappear into the woods. I feel certain it had fatal injuries and died. Vehicle damage is mainly cosmetic--inner/outer grill; bumper cover; hood; passenger fender, head lamp), though the radiator and condenser clips broke and the fan clutch cut an arc into the radiator, but wasn't leaking coolant. Bags did not discharge.
I bought my CLK new in 2000, and intend to keep it another 10 years, or, maybe get a new E class cabriolet.

glad that your okay.
that happened to a friend when he was driving along highway 1 at night. his car came out totaled. the hit looked worse than yours tho. i think his hood was bent in half.
but. glad you came out okay from the accident. cars are always replaceable to some extent.
