If there isn't a leak, the AC will probably work fine after the charge. If there is a slow leak, the AC will work fine until the freon gets low again in a few days (or weeks). By adding dye, they'll be able to spot where the freon is leaking from "if" you have to bring it back.

I got that 1 is cabin temp and 7 is freon pressure. what are the other 2-8 codes for?? Also does this work like the old w202s where you can check the voltage and so on?

PS to that person who will say "who are you talking to" .... " the thread is 5 years old" keep in mind your prob the same person that would say search "AC" if I were to just ask a question as a new thread.......

here is a video I found. Its for a w202 c230 but it seems to match up pretty well with the w208s.

Btw the maker of this video "fupabox" on youtube makes a lot of good detailed vids on his w202 as we all know mercedes functions and technologies are all variants of the past which is great for repeat merc owners.

funny story..... when I went to buy my 02 C230K, The Husband and Wife didn't know how to turn, well i guess pull on the fog lamps but since my w124 it has been the same way through the years..... just an FYI

I found that link particularly helpful when I my EC light stuck "on". So my story was I bought the car in the winter, and randomly the EC button stayed on, never payed attention to it since it was the winter time. In the summer when I addressed the problem I searched high and low for a solution, eventually I learned through various posts on how to read the error codes and what not, turned out I had low freeon. So I bought the freeon charging kit and charged it, lasted about a month then it the light came on again. Recharged it properly this time and haven't had an an issue since. My suggestion is if you have low freeon, follow all the steps CAREFULLY on the can, it'll make it worth it in the end.

Hope that helps a bit. Also, you're probably going to have to reset the unit a few times because for me after it was charged and everything the light came back after a few starts and after some resetting it eventually went away.

@Cardy, don't take this the wrong way, but this is a good example of why people should fill out their profile or say something about where they're located

If this is a US spec car, the engine hasn't warmed up, it's 23 degrees Fahrenheit outside and 25 degrees Fahrenheit in the car . Both heater cores are almost frozen and the evaporator dryer is as cold as you can expect.

I'm going to guess this is an ROW car and that its really closer to 74F outside, 77F inside, and the heater cores are hot; 91F and 97F. That's the problem, the duovalve isn't functioning properly. This page will tell you how to fix them. If cleaning doesn't fix them, in the U.S. they are about $300.

All codes are 5 digits in length. I'm going to guess your B241 is a B1241, which means low Freon. That is confirmed by #7 which is the Freon pressure, and 4 is low.

Thanks Marcus. Do you have any idea how to clear the EC light so I can get the compressor to start so I may re-charge the system?

The EC light does not prevent the system from being charged, The EC light is on because the system needs Freon. I would have the system charged and ask that they add dye. This will allow the tech to determine where it's leaking - if Freon is escaping at a perceptible level. It could be the system hasn't been charged since new and a simple top off is all it needs.

Without doing any diagnostic work on your Benz, I believe that you have a relay that is sticking in the closed position. Replacing the relay is very simple and is around $30 for the relay.. keep in mind that you can pick a relay up at any import salvage yard for a few bucks, just make sure you copy down the part number from the top of the old relay and get a relay with the exact same number or call Mercedes and get them to cross reference the number for an aftermarket or substitute relay. your owners manual will show the location of the relay in your vehicle... let me know if that takes care of the issue..if not I will walk you through a few tests to diagnose the problem without having to pay $130.00 labor to Benz!

So, 1 is the in-car temperature and 87 is the refrigerant pressure. What are the other numbers?

01 clk430 ac blows room temp. HELP

On the climate control display, you will see 1 on the left, and another number on the right. Write down both numbers. Press the AUTO button on the left side. That will cause the number on the left in the display to change to 2, with a different number on the right. Write down both numbers again. Continue to do this until you have numbers 1 through 8 (on the left) and the corresponding numbers on the right side of the display written down. You can press the REST button again after you have written the numbers down. Pressing the REST button again will take the AC out of diagnostics mode. Post the numbers you wrote down here, and I’ll take a stab at telling you why the AC isn’t working.
Hey marcusF, coming across an old post here and hoping to get some help/advice. Have a 01 clk 430 in the shop with no AC. Found pressures correct but no power to the compressor. Followed back to the ac control unit and found that it was not sending power to the compressor. There was actually 12v on the signal wire with the connector UNPLUGGED, but when plugged back in, voltage disappeared. So we replaced with another used control unit. Same thing. Not sending power to the compressor. Checked resistance between compressor and control unit and was good Sent 12v to the compressor via power probe and the compressor kicks on and blows cold. So per customer we ran a bypass switch that sends 12v to the compressor. Now the compressor is getting 12v, clutch is spinning, but now it's not blowing cold?? Is it possible we did something wrong while wiring in the switch? Unwired the switch and sent 12v with the power probe and compressor kicks on but doesn't blow cold. Double checked refrigerant level and is spot on. Completely confused now. Pressures on the ac machine are reading 120 high and low with compressor off, only drops down to 110 high and low with compressor on. Seems to me maybe the compressor took a dumb at bad timing?? I also noticed when pulling the vehicle out of the shop at night the dash said the temp was 108 F. Which I know is not correct.. but this morning seems to be reading close to outside temp. Still not blowing cold. Below are the numbers from the diag screen on the control unit. Any help or advice is appreciated!1 67
