no reverse/shifting

My car seems to have entered "limp mode", I shift it to any gear and it just stays in third, no reverse. I can do about 50 in third but it will not shift. Can somebody tell me a way to reset this limp mode?

99CLK320,
I think you stick a bick pen in a hole at the lower end of the shift gate. I'm not making that up. Use the Advanced Search mode on this forum. I know it has been discussed many times.

I can't find it, could I trouble you to copy/paste the link? I limped it home and now it won't come out out of gear so it won't start.

I thought the pen trick only worked if ABS/ESP lights were coming on and one couldn't shift out of 'park' and wanted to get into gear?

I don't know if it works if you're stuck in a gear and trying to get into park, but at the bottom of the shift gate (near the 'D') there's a half-circle cover. Stick a pen or something else slim in size and insert into the cover till you bottom out. Push down on the pen and you should be able to shift into whatever gear necessary.

It didn't work, it goes into drive no matter where I shift it to. I didn't spill anything in it, there's no wicking, and my transmission fluid is perfect. It did this as I was doing a brake stand at a stoplight, I know I shouldn't be doing that but I still need a solution. Any help?

My last thought is to try a soft resetting of the TCU.

Search for the procedure on the forums.
