Camshaft and CrankPosition Sensor
1999 CLK320. Just dropped $700 and change to have both of these replaced by an independent shop. This included $120 for the diagnostic, another $120 for install, and $230 for the camshaft sensor, $186 for the Crank Position Sensor. Also had $8 in Hazmat and $27 in Supplies. Seemed on the high side but I was in a jam. Trying to decide if this is a shop I might visit again. Your thoughts on the repair costs?

from autohausaz.com
camshaft sensor = 64 dollars (5 minute labor)
crank position sensor = 43 dollars (30 minute labor)
all can be diy...if not, shouldn't charge you more than 1 hr labor
I wouldn't visit that indy again...seems like he up charged you quite a bit from list price to make more money...

Due to that independant's pricing structure, I wouldn’t use them.
Why? List price is what you and I pay. Retail. Dealer list price for a camshaft position sensor on a 2000-2002 CLK320 is $180. Dealer list for the crankshaft position sensor is $125. The independant charged $111 above dealer list for parts. Some dealers sell for less than list. Mercedes-Benz of Annapolis sells those parts for $135 and $93.
If you’re looking for a GOOD independant, some place that fixes your car right the first time and doesn’t overcharge simply because they see you’re in a Mercedes-Benz and can afford it, your local Mercedes-Benz Club of America section probably has a list of shops they recommend.
