Intermitent no start/engine cut outs.
My 2000 CLK 430 started acting up the other day. I drove 30 miles. parked; went into the bank and came out and the car wouldnt start. I was able to let the car sit for a couple hours. I go back and it started right away. 2 days later. I drove 20 miles went to get gas. Gassed up and then the car wouldn't start again. It tries to turn over but wont actually start.
now today I am driving and pull up to a red light and the car stalls out and wont start again.
It sat for about 10 minutes and started again.
Now I guess my questions are:
Thoughts on it being a fuel pump?
Where is the fuel pump located? inside the gas tank? Any access panels to it?
What about it being a MAF sensor?
Any directions of schematics on that?
Any help would be really appreciated!

like twin said, CPS, Cranck Position Sensor. it sitd on top of your trans case behinde the motor, i forgot if it's omn the driver or the passenger side but if i recall correctly it's on the passenger side(U.S. car passenger side). there is a wire that is clipped into it. dont pay someone to do the job as its simple, buy the part, its about $65. let the car cool off for a few hours, unclip the wire from the existing sensor, then use a torque head to loosen up the one screw and remove the old sensor. then put in the new sensor and do everything in reverse order. Very easy and fast job, minimal frostration and F bombs.

Well guys thanks again for your quick responses and help. I found a new CPS for $54 locally. bought it and had a buddy help me install it. We didnt even need to remove the engine cover.
Only time will truly tell though. This problem has only been happening every other day or so, but today when the vehicle actually stalled out and left me in the street I decided something had to be done about it asap.
Fingers crossed lets hope this works.

There's nothing worse than not knowing if the car will start or not.You just don't know where or when you might be stranded. It happened to mine about a year or so ago and the CPS was the culprit.
Good luck!

Well guys I wanted to wait a week or two to make sure the problem was officially resolved. I replaced the CPS the same night as this thread. I found one locally at pep boys for $54. Installed it and im HAPPY to report this seems to have taken care of the issue.
Just wanted to thank you guys one more time for saving me a ton of time and money regarding this issue!
