If I were to purchase a 1998 CLK 320 instrument cluster and replace an existing 1999 CLK 320 convertible instrument cluster, would:

1) this be a simple plug & play swap, or is additional "work" required?
2) the computer keep the original mileage or would it now display the 98 CLK mileage that came with the cluster?

The mileage is only stored in the cluster until the 2001 on up models. That is when the mileage is also shared with the EZS Module. It should be plug and play for 1998 and 1999 models. The mileage will show as the donor clusters mileage.
