New Guy..CLK55 AMG
Well its finally happened.. After several months of searching and hundreds of views from this board I've finally bought a 2001 CLK55...now my username is relevant
.
I just have to say what a great car this is and i have to give props to the members of this board and their posts that helped me make an informed decision before pulling the trigger. I'm hopeful that Ive scored a good example not needing too many repairs.
Its a 2001 CLK55 AMG with 59k mikes in pretty good condition for a 10 year old car.. all of the electrical doo-dads work with the exception of some dead pixels on the clock and the gear indicator. Many thanks to everyone..![bow](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/bowdown.gif)
What did we do before the internet???![](http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b23/2000dr650/2001%20clk55%20amg/DSC_0233.jpg)

(1)Exhaust...I want to make it have a more menacing growl than it already has..not sure how to approach this though.. I need to pass NYS emissions..
(2)Rims.. im looking at some newer 17" clk55 rims
(3)fix the stereo.. its from 2004 and pretty ratty and doesn't really work

go for wheels and a drop as 1 & 2 instead of exhaust...
don't you think 17" is a bit too small for AMG? I would aim for at least 19 IMO.

also, 20+ in wheels are very common here as well, even with the horrible roads. Personally, I would risk the damages the wheels "might" take and go bigger for looks and personal satisfaction but that's only me.
I guess that's the reason why most car events are held anywhere but LA county lols.

Congratulations! Hopefully once my finances catch up there will still be a good CLK55 specimen out there for me too. I work down in meatpacking and will keep an eye out for your car passing me on the streets. Do you live/work in the area where you took the photo?
I have 17" OEM AMG rims on my car and I can't imagine driving on the NYC roads with anything bigger. After the hottest summer on record and then the coldest winter, with the most snow constantly on the ground that I've seen in 15 years, the roads were utterly decimated. Combine that with the economy and the city and state budgets stretched to the breaking point, and not as much money for repairs, and it definitely equals a "minefield." A cab driver agreed with me and said it's the worst roads he's ever seen.
Enjoy your new ride!

99CLK320,
If it were me I would put a Super Sprint resonator and muffler on it. Good quality stainless steel, free flow and sound but not high dollar like Eisenmann or some of the other big name after market mod parts suppliers. Go to youtube and search for CLK exhaust etc and you will be able to hear plenty of manufacturers exhaust on MB v8s.

Looks clean , congrats ..
Are you mirrors automatic folding or did you just push it in yourself ? Also if you arnt looking to spend thousands for exhuast you might wanna try resinator delete and x pipe with some high flow cats .. Also you can swap out the pads on the suspension and lower some and still keep the benz ride feel compared to slamming it and taking away the ride . damn low miles for a 01' .. Enjoy as im sure you are allready doing ...

2010 Irridium Silver MB C63 AMG Sedan
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE your car!!! The HAMMER!!! Color is fantastic!!!! Congrats and enjoy!! I would not do much except for add some contrasting pieces to bring out the silver, like carbon fiber piece on mirror or exhaust....other wise just keep as is....truly fantastic.

99CLK320,
found this...does anyone know if this will effect my emissions in a bad way according to the EPA?

Very nice, congrats!
I just picked up my first CLK55 last week. It's also a 2001 with 56k on it. I had a 430 before, and I'm very happy I stepped it up to the AMG.
I'm thinking tints, navigation, and wheels eventually. Everything else on the car is just how I want it.

Mine's in good shape too. I had my friend, a Merc mechanic, take a look. He said change fluids (oil, tranny, coolant, brake, diff), but other than that it's all set.
He said an easy fix for a little meaner sound is just to remove the resonator from the exhaust and fit it with a straight or x pipe. If I do anything to the exhaust, I think I'd start there. Even if it doesn't sound perfect, it would only be $200 instead of an entire cat back or more.
