CLK55 stutters at idle

A new problem has developed with my 2001 CLK55 and I need some help diagnosing it. It doesn't matter if the car is hot or cold, at idle, occasionally it will start to stutter, almost like its gonna die and all i need to do is tap the gas and it seem to be better.. but once to motor drops down to idle again the problem sporadically returns.. There are new plugs installed as well as KN filters.. could this be a symptom of a faulty MAF sensor??Thanks

hopefully thats all it is .. do u have check engine light ..
have you scanned it to see if it throws any codes . theres a couple threads about this on the w210AMG section .. Its does it on my e55 also but i havent diagnosed it as it goes away and comes back . some have changed out plugs wires , maf, and still does it . somone else changed the EGR valve and seems to have solved there problem .. Goodluck and if you come across any remedies . POST it up

no check engine light...Im pretty hands on with this car by necessity.. and no way would i drop it off at the dealer unless its totally critical .. i picked up a scanner and I guess this would be a good time to try it out and see what i find.. didnt think about the EGR.. ill look at it.. On a side note..What really amazed me today after a 5 hour drive, is how hot this car becomes, im not talking about the coolant temp but the body.. the front of the car is almost too hot to touch.. i can only imagine how the under hood heat wears on the various sensors and components..

you aint kidding about the heat .. I changed my front springs the other day now my front end sitts higher then the rear .. after gettin home from the shop open the hood to push down on front end could barely touch the metal as it was blazin . i was also suprized how much heat and i have only driven about an hr or so ..

as you mention sensors and such .. you might also wanna check for any loose , or cracked breather tubes or hoses .. sometimes i heard that can create hiccups within the car under the hood

Check under the airbox. On the driver side there should be a breather hose from the MAF to the valve cover. It's only a few inches long, and molded to fit around various components.

I had problems like you described after I bought my CLK. That particular hose had dried up, and cracked away in the middle. Replaced it with a new one from AutohausAZ (like 8 bucks) and that cured my symptoms.

same issue here, been chasing for months. between me and indy, replaced just about everything...mine stutters intermittently...no codes, sds shows nothing, dealers and indys can't figure out either.

basically feels like an old muscle car rumble...

coupecrazy: can you link which hose you replaced with?

good read... it seems this problem is more common then i thought.. its a little unnerving though when the car is about to die at light...but.. at least it doesn't die

I felt a slight rumble at idle recently. After a recent oil change, I noticed a faint ticking which I was told by a couple of MBenz Techs was some sludge buildup on the lifters. I know my motor mounts are pretty bad too, so I figured it could just be extra vibrations from the combo of those two things. I'm getting all three mounts changed, so we'll see if that fixes it.

Yeah with mine I still occasionally get a little 'rumble' at idle, but after changing the hose it never came close to stalling again, and really settled it down.

The part in the middle is what I replaced.

i noticed in the c63 forum, if oil is overfilled, it will cause rough vibrations....had my oil checked multiple times to make sure it was not overfilled or underfilled...something to watch for...

thanks coupecrazy...probably about time to start replacing vacuum hoses since these cars run so damn hot....

mercedes really should have added some vents like the sl class..
