Question Question: CLK 430 vs. Infiniti G35--Any Contest?

Hello All- I was just wondering how you all felt about the new Infiniti G35 (pretty much a Nissan 350Z) and how it compares with our beloved CLK 430. Price not being an advantage or disadvantage, how do you all feel about the G35 (280 hp engine) and how it stacks up to the CLK430.
Any comparison? My take is that the G35 (like all new Japanese Products) has all the new techo-gadgets and features (18 wheels, etc.), while the CLK 430 is more expensive and has less features. However, German cars have Character, a trait that makes these cars desirable even after they are outdated by the Japanese cars. Thank you All!:p

My best friend had a deposit on a G35. Then his girlfriend saw one and asked him if that was the new Honda. Now my friend has a deposit on a CLK500.

It's a true story but for the record I think it's a nice car and a great value but I'll take the CLK every time.

G35 doesnt compare to CLK, more to the new C320 coupe.
its a nice car but not on the same level as a 430 or a 320 for that matter

socalclk... i'm with you on that one.

i don't think mb & infiniti/nissan is even in the same class, so its hard to justify comparing the two. and although the W209 clk share some resemblance with that of the new Accord & C70 coupe, you can't compare those either. its like comparing apples w/ oranges, true, they are both relatively round & a fruit, but totally different

i see MB as a class in its own. different from BMW, Jag, Caddy... its just different

"MB class in its own” whatever MB is a carmaker.
Both cars are coupes why shouldn't they be compared? Prestiges give me a break. Considering the clk cost almost 15K more than g35.

Exterior g35
Interior CLK
perf g35 over clk 320 but not 420v8
Luxury def CLK
Price g35
G35 doesn’t compare to CLK430, more to the new Clk320 coupe

Most coupes killing the clk320 in every aspect except prestige.

Yes. When I was in college the only car I thought about was a clk but I recently realize the clk style hasn't really change much. Just reshaping the lights on a car doesn't mean the car has change. P Think about this for a moment imagine what else you can get for a new clk430 at 60K
The clk is a nice car but it's just too much out here right now.

I am a car designer and not going to say which company I work for. The Japanese cars are focused mainly on style and updates. However, the German cars are based on engineering factor. Style is the last thing the German think about. This is why more people preferred European cars b/c of the quality in engineering and the style hardly changed on there cars. Take for example, look at the Porsche.

If you want style that last 2 or 4 years....then go with Japanese car. If you want timeless design & sergurically precision engineer autombile.....GERMAN.

Talking Thanks for the observations!

BANSASN

You are absolutely correct in your statements. And I like your choice of selected automobiles!
German cars are blessed with the characteristics that make them so enduring even after years of technical innovations (i.e. an old MBZ 300CE or BMW 2002)
By the way, I love your quote, it sounds like vintage Rick Flair, "To Be The Man, you have to Beat The Man!" Whoo!
Have a great weekend and thanks for your thoughts!

2002 CLK 55 AMG Coupe ;)
In the just concluded "JD Powers initial quality survey", INFINITY movs UP to # 3!! …

and MERCEDES drops to # 15 - for low mediocre quality.

CHEVY beats MERCEDES in initial quality!!

Summary:
1.Lexus
2.Cadillac
3.Infiniti
4.Acura

7.Porsche
8.BMW
9.Toyota
10.Jaguar

11.Honda
12.Volvo
13.Chevy
14.Audi
15.Mercedes-Benz

Considering that INFINITY was close to bankruptcy, their new line of cars is simply outstanding, - not only from the appearance point of view but also for being quality products.

To back up it's cars, Infinity standard warranty exceeds that of MB, offering an outstanding value for the G35 at $30 k!

Basic: 4 yr. / 60,000 mi.
Drivetrain: 6 yr. / 70,000 mi.
Roadside: 4 yr. / 60,000 mi.
Rust: 7 yr. / Unlimited mi

PS

I still prefer my CLK55, -- but I am going to test drive the new line of Infinities, particularly the FX 45.
