Engine knocking...help

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LRIng...e_gdata_player

Well I noticed some slight knocking on the right (from driver seat) hand side of the engine block. It was happening before my oil change and now after the oil change (less then before). This knocking also only happens at idle I'm guessing because I only notice it when I stop at a light and feel a ticking in the front piller by the windscreen.

Any tips on how to fix this knock?

Thanks

nothing, no "Check Engine" light or codes on the OBD reader. I was thinking its a valve or something of that sort...need to open up the block :/

Mine has a valve tic that comes and goes and seems to be a comon complaint. You wont, however, feel it in the "A" piller . With good motor mounts you shouldn't "feel" any knocking. Now if you really have a knock rather than a valve tic you may be in for more work. Rod knocks will get worse with revs and less at idle. You stated both "knock" and "tic" so not sure which one you have? What kind of miles do you have on the car?

the video should explain the sound to you perfectly haha i feel like something is hitting up on the block therefore isnt the engine mounts.

Miles on the car are mostly highway with some stop and go traffic Chicago style

Engine Knock

Have you ruled out purge valve ticking? Just a thought!

Nah, the purge valve is a ticking and from videos I've watched, sounds very faint. I believe mine is knocking because the amount of knocks increase with rpm rise. :/ not too happy if I have a piston or valve knocking.

Time for an AMG haha

Anyone also have problems with a high pitched transmission whine? I recently changed out the trans oil and just recently had a high pitched whine start...like i said, time for an AMG I guess

Is it possible to use a hyper lubricant, such as motorkote, to minimize the rod knocking? Doing an engine rebuild due to a rod would not be fun :/

If you have rod knock, real rod knock, where "the bearing clearances are so over spec that the guy three houses down answers his front door when you start the car", no oil on earth is a long term fix. A rebuild, one sooner than later, is the only way to correct the problem.

I'm not saying this is you, but many people confuse collapsed lifters and/or the purge valve with rod knock. A few minutes with a stethoscope should narrow the problem down pretty quickly. That said, has anyone ever read a thread where the OP really had rod knock?

Ive had a transmission whine in 4th gear on acceleration and in 2nd gear on deceleration for 3 years now. almost two years ago I took the car to a mercedes transmission specialist indy shop and he basically told me to live with it after he serviced the tranny(fluid and filter change, new gasket, cleaned valve body, installed new spring in valve body thats known to fail, changed leaking o-ring, replaced a bushing inside tranny), but knock on wood still no problems with it other than the faint whine. If anyone knows of a quick cheap fix to this please let me know eg. different tranny fluid etc.

I agree totally with you because it's a faith knock which was not present after purschese and I didn't cause it for sure. I've decided to get new spark plugs and new spark wire set as well, I'll keep you all posted.
