Resetting The Service Signal
HELP !!!!! My service signal has been counting down for the last couple of months. I had my oil changed by my mechanic (not an MB dealer mechanic) but he wasn't able to reset the service signal. I tried myself, I have followed the directions in the manual, but no luck. It now says SERVICE DUE NOW. Even though I have changed the oil I still hate to see the warning come up.
Does anyone have any suggestions or how how to reset the timer? I would hate to have to go to MB Dealer Service counter just for that. If that's my last resort, I will.
Any recommendations would be appreciated.
Thanks.

Reset it
Ela Eleni, I know you tried, but try again doing what the manual says. Make sure you follow the instructions carefully about position 0 and 1, it usually takes 2 or 3 times to do it in the beginning but then you'll know what to do.

Try this,
Resetting the FSS:
I found this on the net and it worked.
Turn the electronic key in steering lock to position 2. To call up the trip odometer and main odometer, press button 3 or 4 on the multifunction steering wheel until the display appears.
Press button 5 or 6 until the FSS indicator appears.
Press button 'R' on the instrument cluster for approximately 2 seconds.
The multifunction display will show the question:
'DO YOU WANT TO RESET SERVICE INTERVAL? - CONFIRM BY PRESSING R'
Press button 'R' on the instrument cluster again, and hold until a signal sounds. The message 'SERVICE INTERVAL HAS BEEN RESET' appears in the multifunction display.
The new service indicator is displayed with the reset distance of 10,000 miles
Don’t let go the 0 button until you hear the bip, & you might need to have the driver’s door closed.
(Tried it again with driver side door closed!)
Best of luck to ya,
Tim

Thanks nickm and Timster. I'm sorry Timster, I should have specified that I have a 99 clk430. Unfortunately, I don't have the multifunction steering wheel . I would like to though . I will try double checking in the book to make sure that I have the key in the right position each time. I'm assuming I do, I thought it as easy as counting to 3.
I do get a pic of the oil with showing "OIL Level?" but nothing after that. I don't get the comment the manual says I should see which is RESET ?
Thanks.

What are you doing? I have a 99 as well and I have not found any documentation on how to reset the FSS. What document did you find it in? or maybe you can post what it says.
thanks

Thanks I will continue to try it again and let you know if it doesn't work.
Fletcher, were you able to find the instructions in the manual. If not I'll check and see what page they are on. We should have the same manual since we both have a 99.

The instructions in the manual do work. I have a '99 CLK 320 and I just did this last weekend. I just followed the directions step-by-step. If you still can't do it then let me know and I will post up the exact instructions.

The only reason it shouldn't be working is if maybe I don't have the key in the correct positions when I'm doing it. I've done it so many times that I think I'm memorizing the directions as I go along.
I will try again tonight and let everyone know how it went.
Thanks.

Sorry I took so long to respond Fletch. The instructions on resetting the service signal should be on page 92-93 in the CLK owners manual.
I haven't tried to reset again. I will probably try sometime this weekend.

I finally got mine to reset today. It took on the second try. I am so relieved. That warning was starting to annoy me.
I'm not sure if it will reset all warnign signals. I know that it is supposed to work for service signals.
Thanks again everyone.

Seeing as I purchased my car used I seem to not have the manual that has this information in it. I did find the reset info for a ML 320 on line. I am going to try that and see if it works. If not can I trouble you to post the process?
thanks

Resetting FSS and Steering Lock to Position 2
Like some of you on this thread that had trouble with resetting your FSS, I too had some trouble doing so on my '99 E320.
I read and followed (or so I thought) the instructions (page 95 on my manual) carefully.
What I did wrong was scanned the electronic key section in the manual to find out what Steering Lock Position 2 was. I saw a picture of the trunk key positions and didn't read the text and thought it was the Steering Lock. FSS.
Anyway, the trunk key positions show 2 as the second to last click (this is not position 2 on the Steering Lock). The steering lock picture is on page 62 and it shows position 2 as the position where all the instrument lights come on....just before the spring-loaded position 3 (the one that starts the car).
Anyway, once I got this right, I was able to follow the instructions on page 95 sucessfully and was able to reset my FSS.

This should work for the pre 2000 CLK models:
1 - Get in the car and close all the doors
2 - Put the key in the ignition and turn it to position #2
3 - Press the odometer reset button (O) 2 times so that the FSS countdown appears
4 - Turn the key back to position 0 (off)
5 - Press and hold the reset button (O) while turning the key back to the #2 position. Keep holding the reset button until you hear a beep

CLK 430, SLK 230
I've got a CLK 2000 and my service manual indicates that the individual can reset the FSS counter. Unfortunately, I've tried a number of times on numerous occasions--and followed the directions perfectly--but have not been successful as yet. However, I am encouraged by this thread because it highlights something that is not stated in the manual. Namely, "make sure the doors are shut." I think that every time I've tried to reset the counter I have done so with the driver's side door open. Hopefully when I attempt it again tonight, with the door shut, I will have success!
Thanks,
Rob
