Gearbox mount
Hi all.
Today I found out that I need a new gearbox mount.
I was wondering what else to replace along with it, plus are there any better parts for our cars? For instance the engine mounts from a W209 are better (I've read) than the W208 part!
I've got my local garage doing the work on Friday, so thought I'd post this up in case I need to order more parts before hand.
Thanks for any input!

AFAIK, there's no better replacement part for the tranny mount that supersedes the 208's part number.
I'd definitely take a look at the front flex disc for signs of cracking and replace that if needed.

It sounds like you're on the right track. The transmission mount usually fails after the engine mounts have failed, so carefully inspecting the engine mounts is usually a must, and then replacing them if bad.

99CLK320,
If you have a bunch of miles on the car as long as you/your garage is under it do the motor mounts as well. If and when you have some idle issues you will know that the motor mounts, which can cause that prolbem are not in the mix and cross them off your list.

Hi all,
Thanks for your replies!
I'll look into changing the flex plates too.
Dlbehrns
The motor mounts were changed around 4yrs ago and the car idles fine. I have 61k on the odo.
Mob
I didn't get much warning!
I noticed that when I drove over car park speed humps (the short sharp tall ones with yellow stripes) my gear lever would move forward excessively and then as I came down it went back into position.
That happened for a week, then when a lot of torque went through the engine at low speeds, pulling away briskly or short burst of speed I would get a knocking sound from underneath which gradually got worse over 3-4 days. It's now at the point where if I accellerate hard the car feels hinged in the middle. Obviously at that point it went to the garage.
From small wear to near breaking in a week!![EEK!](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/eek.gif)
Thanks again for your input Guys!

Quick update!
I had the work done today and it turns out that it wasn't the gearbox mount afterall, it was the engine mount!
To explain, the garage mis diagnosed and found when they got underneath the car that a bolt had dropped out from one of the mounts!
So one replaced bolt, engine tied back down, job done.
Oh, and no charge!

so, does anyone know the symptoms for a bad gearbox mount?
my car idles rough; engine actually shakes when cold; during acceleration, you can actually feel the vibrations; when i lift off the accelerator, things are a bit better; if i'm brave enough to hit 70mph, it mostly disappears.
can anyone advise?
has anyone experienced this and what was the fix?
thanks in advance

99CLK320,
how many miles on your car? sounds like motor mounts to me. I can't remember who posted it but the motor mounts for the w209 are superior to the w208. And as long as you are at it, do the trans mount too.

99CLK320,
I can't speak from personal experience and I can't remember who it was but someone posted on this forum that they installed 209 motor mounts on their 320/208. Don't have time to Search for the thread but I know its out there. Was that you MarcusF?

Yeah! Plus 1 with dlbehrns on it being motor mounts.
Does your gear shift move excessively? Any knocking noises?
Have it checked by an Indie, you shouldn't get charged.
