SOS Button

Does anyone have any experience messing with the SOS button in the headliner? When they took down the analog phone network in the US this button became useless. I'm thinking of using it as part of a project but I haven't seen much about it, removing it, wire pinouts, etc..

Anyone messed with it before?

Funny you mention it. I was just messing around, doing a hardwire install for my radar detector in the the dome light, and wondering "what would happen if I hit this cool looking SOS button?". Thinking I might have to fab up an oil injector post cat and use the SOS for a smokescreen.

i pressed mine and all that happened was it blinked for about 5 minutes and the stereo went Mute twice for like 5 seconds, went back to the radio and nothing else happened... Must not work because ours were back on the Analog signal which doesnt exist anymore, just like my 01 9-3 with *OnStar, i press all the buttons and it just makes a busy signal noise because it was before everything switched to Digital signal so it will never work again.

I'm finally getting around to this project. I removed the SOS button from the head liner. For anyone who'd thinking about this, it's fairly simple and non destructive. I pulled at the backside first then rocked it side to side until it came out. Pictures below show the top side of it and how it's attached for anyone who'd like to remove theirs.
