Weird Problem

Hi Guys,

Today as I was driving to work I had to make a hard stop, I had both of my hands on the steering wheel when I steped on the brakes. What happened next is I felt the steering wheel being pushed down, it literally moved maybe 1/4" towards the dashboard. I have been reading the forum for a long time and I have never seen this before. Could anybody chime in with any ideas, same experience. Car has approx. 175K 2001 clk.

Thanks in advance
Lupo

This sounds like a ridiculously stupid answer but, was the telescoping function locked on the steering wheel? That's all I would think it would be. Hahahaha

That's what the dealer thought too, but the light on the dashboard for the steering wheel adjustment was not on and I haven't adjusted the steering wheel in ages. Maybe the lock is failing or it wasn't sitting right.

Even if the locking function is broken I dont think it's a massive deal, and the dealer will probably gouge you for it. So instead of going straight to them and getting it fixed, I'd just put the steering wheel as far toward the dash as it gets (so it won't move when you brake) and move the seat to your liking. That way you can know if it's the locking system or something else
