Chrome window trim?

Has any ever changed the chrome windor trim on a CLK320? I want to change it to a black trim like most of the sporty looking clk's. Is this possible, has anyone done it, and does anyone know how much?

not sure if it's possible to DIY. the dealership or some bodyshop might be the only place you can do'em at.

rims suggestion: get some AMG type-III or dual-spoke if you want something cheaper....or some Brabus if you don't care for the price. lol

Laiv, I'm actually looking to do the same to my 430. I have the chrome window trim also. I'm gonna be checking at the parts department in the dealership to see if they sell that piece in black. I will post my findings. Or, if you get there before I do please post your findings.

I think the back trim would add a nice touch, I prefer how the newer CLK's look with the black trim.

thanks frank and eleni

totally agree that a subtle change in the trim will make a big difference.

If I find anything, I'll post it too.

Thanks

So, what do you guys suggest I do first...buy rims or suspension. What will make my car look like the sporty models?

Thanks

I say a nice set of rims. Your car already looks good, but a nice set of rims will look even nicer.

A set of rims is my next project also. I've been looking for them, I would like to have that done atleast within the next month. Suspension will actually be one of the last mods for me if I even go that route. Not sure, if I will...

But definitely a set of rims.

I'd say some rims first...the CLK is actually already lower than the C-class. Here's what my sis's car looks like with the 17" AMG type-III 225/45 profile all around.

we haven't got the car back from the shop if you've seen my thread about the car on the 208 forum.

YEAH $900 A SIDE IS WAY TOO MUCH TO SPEND ON THAT. I'D RATHER HAVE IT PAINTED. $300 A SIDE IS CONSIDERABLE BUT STILL MORE THAN WHAT I WAS EXPECTING.

If you want to do it cheaply you can try the black tape sold at Pep Boys (less than $10). Quite a few people over on the BMW Roadfly board have used it with great results on their 3 and 5 series. If you don't like it, peel it off. It might be worth a try.....

You can always remove the moulding and send it to a plating shop and get it done in black chrome. That shouldn't run more than a couple hundred dollars for everything, maybe 300. That's if you're comfortable pulling it off and putting it on yourself ;0)

Ahmed, love your 99 clk 320. Did you have the chrome window trim changed or did you buy it like that. By the way, is that car lowered? Thanks

thanks laiv

thats my friends car. It was ordered that way cause its a SPORT model. The car has not been lowered, but if you notice, its lowered just a bit at the rear. Thats because all SPORT models are lightly lowered compared to the ELEGANCE models.

If you are in the states, then you may not be aware that the CLK comes in two variants. Before 2000, CLK's were available in SPORT and ELEGANCE models and in 2000 the SPORT was replaced by the AVANTGARDE.
