Is the service indicator smart in CLK?

IN the display you can go through the menu and see when you would need an ENG oil change.

Is that indicator tied to a sensor and sees the condition of the engine oil or is it more like a mile count down??

it does analyze/check the level of oil you have in the engine (in case you need to add oil or if there is too much), but i don't think it really analyzes the oil to give you a reading on the condition of the oil...

although, i think it is preprogrammed to perform oil changes based on a set mileage, and then the computer tracks your driving patterns and mileage, and calculates how that effects your oil condition... based on that, it displays when you need to change the oil
