PLEASE i need help, having problems w/ CLK

sup fellas, my car has been shutting off for the past 4months and leaving me stranded. heres whats happening, i'll be slowing down or at a stop, it then shuts off. i'll turn in back on, it starts for a second or 2 then shuts off again. sometimes itl start back up and sometimes i just gota wait. usually just happens after engine is warm and always starts when engine is cold.

did some research here a few months back so i started with new fuel filter, didnt solve problem. then new fuel pump. that didnt help. finally i put in brand new CPS and still didnt help. it doesnt turn off on me every day, sometimes itl go 2 weeks without doin it. No CEL either. its been in the shop for last 2 weeks, mechanic been driving it but it hasnt shut off on him yet so he doesnt no what it is. battery and alternator good too. any clue what it might be? its very frustrating and i dont wana keep spending money on this since i already blew dough on stuff it really didnt need, lol. please help me out guys, thanks in advance!

really sounds like a crank position sensor issue...are you sure you got a OEM part and it was installed right? Make sure it is CRANK not CAM position sensor you replaced.

Does it do this with the same key? Min used to do it with a new key and still does but always starts up. The dealer finally gave me the key for free because they could not fix it after 3 keys.

Had the exact same symptoms and it was the CPS. I'd replace it even if you just replaced it recently - sometimes these go bad. I bought a bosch CPS replacement for $70 and haven't had the issue since.

The alternative is to get a new key, as has been mentioned.

99CLK320,
sure it isn't a fuel pump/pressure issue? just a guess.

i put in a new fuel pump. mechanic said it finally threw a code for egr valve.but says that egr valve would not cause car to shut off, is this TRUE? cuz i been doin research on here and egr problems have caused engines to stall. so he is replacing egr valve and solenoid along with vacuum lines which he said were damaged. could this be whats been giving me problems all along??

Cps sensors do not cause the car to just shut off.when my cps went it would sometimes turn on or sometimesnot at all.
the weird part about your problem is you have no cel on.have you tried serching it on the forum or even on google.I would think it could be a loose plug if you've fixed every problem that has come to mind.good luck

A bad CPS would most certainly cause it to shut off when running. At the light, car would just shut off. After a couple of tries of trying to turn it on, it would turn back on and go. After a while, it would shut off when stopped. I replaced the CPS - never happened again. For $70, it's worth replacing. If the problem persists, remove it and take it back for a refund.

A stuck open EGR will certainly cause you to stall at idle. EGR only opperates after warm up. They are only meant to open at cruise and light open throttle. EGR should throw a code though. Does the car idle smooth? Bad EGR will also cause a rough idle.
