AMG wheel swap question.

Greetings all. I am interested in swapping my current early-type 17" monoblocks from my '01 CLK55, for 18" AMG wheels. My specific question here is will the AMG wheels from an R129 SL (P/Ns A2304012002 and 2012) fit on my car? If so, are there any spacers or special bolts required? Many, many thanks for all responses.

Thanks JBenz!

I had read elsewhere that Tirerack was a good source for this info, but hadn't realized they were so aware of these details for our cars. I was also wondering about 18" Monoblocks from the E55s of our era fitting. Will give Tirerack a call and see what they know.

99CLK320,
The offset on a MB oem rim should be stamped on the inside of the rim. Offset on the CLK is 35mm. If the offset goes up the wheel and tire moves in and you may need spacers.

Thanks dlbehrns!

I was never clear on that "offset" point before, and you've just set me straight. Really appreciate that. Yes, I'd observed the 35mm stamp on my wheels, and now understand exactly it's importance. Appreciate it!

@dlbehrns, another question..

I see you list camber bolts as one of your upgrades. I've never felt like our cars have steering as linear as I would like. Has the ability to adjust camber made your steering feel tighter, more linear?

99CLK320,
It can be tricky. if you go with a higher offset AND a wider rim you can end up having problems rubbing on the front suspension. plenty of room in the back.

E 63S Wagon Renntech, E55 Renntech, SL65, SL 55 030, ML, bunch of old ones--they come, they go...
These wheels will work...

fine with no issues. I cannot recall as it's been a while about the bolts. Btw, no offense to T Rack, but as they've been out of the AMG business for a good while, you're not going to get definitive information there. Perhaps someone from the old days might help, but....
I'll see if I have a picture to scan for you. I used this setup numerous times on the 208 with no issues.

Thanks allen

Appreciate this info. Glad to hear those SL AMGs will fit! Yeah, can deal w/the bolt length change if needed. Just really appreciate hearing from people on here who know this stuff, because no one else out there does ;-)

Let's see....

if this will appear. It's old and not that great, but should give you an idea. This is no spacers, mods, etc, and H&R springs. 225/40 and 255/35 18 is the best tire setup. Not a very good scan, but just thought it might help you.
