Those "regular parts" are no big deal but the engine? You're making it sound like 55 AMG engines are just sitting around all over the place. What's the deal there? I'm not doubting you and this sounds like fun but still, what did you have to do to find one and how much was it?

look for them, trust me just some time spent calling around and e-mailing and you will find them at very good condition pretty cheap. I found a great deal with very low miles. and i'm sure you can find them again, if you need my contact let me know and i will put you in touch with him, they are local private salvage yard that deals only with AMGs, ferraries, lambos and aston martins.

I almost wish there was something wrong with my powertrain but it's running perfect right now. I just did a quick search and I see what you mean. Advertised prices are 2500-3000 so I know I could get one for less. You got a great deal at 2500 for an engine and trans. Awesome. Even with 135K on it, my 430 runs so good and considering a person can drive the car first I bet I could get 2500 for my engine but at even 2K that would work. I'm pretty good at selling stuff at full retail and finding bargains for myself. That would easily cover the labor and a few extra things so then I'm just out the cost of the replacement engine. I use a German indy who's reasonable and very knowledgable. Hmmm...

Yeah that deal is toooooo sick, i'm sure with thorough research and weighing of options, as well as classic DIY then you can have yourself a BEAST now tho, given that the CLK 55 runs on the "M113 E55" engine, as well as others like the E55, CL55, SLK55, C55, S55, etc.. could you theoretically include those in the search when looking for the engine?? I'm sorry if for my blatant ignorance if this is one of those "look at this dumbass" posts hahaha but I wanted to widen my options as well. Would there be any problems say if I found one of those other M113 E55 engines for cheap and installed it?

here is a few more pictures, the install will be in a few weeks as i'm very busy with work and i just ordered all new seals, gaskets, hoses, plugs, wires, sensors, water pump, and a bunch of other stuff that I am going to replace on the motor before i drop it in. It is about a 100 times easier with the motor out on a cart to do all that work and do a pressure wash after all is done and then drop in. Also another change in plan was that instead of the original plan of running the 55 motor with the 430 diff and trans i will be running it with the 55 diff and trans because i may be adding more power with some other secret tools after the transplant is done so i want the stronger parts in. enjoy the pics.

Left the office a little early today and went to work on the 55 engine. didnt have much time but managed to do the following:
new exhaust manifold gaskets
new water pump and gasket
new thermostat and gasket
cleaned the engine a little
cleaned and installed altenator
install new temp sensor on the block
installed idler pulley
i also took off the valve covers and the intake manifold, I will be using a pressure washer and some chemicals tomorrow at my friends shop to clean all three items and I will be painting the intake manifold in wrinkled black after I will be going back next week when i have time to install the valve covers and the new gaskets, the intake manifold and new gasket, EGR valve and cleaned tube and new gasket as well as the power steering pump, new power steering pump resevore and O ring, belt tentionor, oil cooler and oild filter housing gasket seals, new knock senosr, engine harness, fuel injector rubber O rings, fan clutch, all new breather hoses and connectors and throttle actuator and seal. will post more pics once those are done as well. so enjoy for now.
p.s. first picture is my supplies to get me through the job in a 104 degree weather in a room at a friends warehouse. lol you will also notice i took many pictures of the cleaned gasket areas, thats because i cleaned them with scuff pads to make sure of a 100% proper sealed gaskets.

I was going to say the same thing Alex, lol. I'd even include the no for Redbull, that stuff will kill you too.
I thought I was a hardcore fan. 09 Lakers?? Let it go dude, let it go...
Nash and Jaimeson will help, will it be enough? Who knows. I doubt the Howard deal will happen but maybe. Jimmy really doesn't want to give Gasol and Bynum away. One or the other yes but not both.

You're very ambitious with this project. I think the cost difference to most people is that you have a shop with space and a lift to do this. If you had to pay someone for all the labor then you definitely would be better off buying a used 55 AMG. I have seen them going as low as about $12K, which is a bargain if it has been cared for.
I'm curious about the paddle shifters. Is it a plug and play? For my 430?

CLK55 coupe in Atlanta area, only 60K miles, for 12 grand! That is a deal if you want a W208 55 coupe. I personally hate convertibles (they always look more feminine, don't drive as well, and have expensive problems related to the stupid top), but there are a lot out there.

I dont have a shop, I dont have the space, i dont have a lift, i'm not a mechanic, i am paying someone to do the install and i dont have the time! and yes if you own a clk, if you spend the time and do the research for parts it is cheaper to convert it than selling and buying another one.
