Smile New here and thinking of getting a 99 CLK430

I currently own a c230 sport coupe and am interested in a 1999 CLK 430(54,000KM, Bordeaux red/oyster, loaded) for $41,000 CND. The clk 430 seems like a lot of car and I've always missed a V8 since owning a 97 TransAM. I've learned a lot from reading this forum but would appreciate any advice or insight on my possible purchase(Anything I should particularly look for, any outstanding maintenance issues, problems with the 99 models, do any of you have any regrets about owning a clk430 etc.) Thanks in advance.

I had a 99 CLK430 for two years. The only problem I had was a bad Mass Air Sensor.

Sold it, then got a CLK55 a year later.

I loved the car. If price is a concern, the only real difference I believe is the steering wheel and computer controls between the 99 and the 2000 and up.

I would stay away from any 1998-1999 MB. Check out the following:

I do not think a crank pulley issue should keep you away from a 99 CLK430.

I heard about this and I remember it being mostly on 320's. If you know feel it is a big concern and you still want a good deal on a 99, just swap in a new one.

Still try to buy an extended warranty for at least the drive train though.

I have a 99 430 and haven't had any major issues. The only thing I have had was my gas gauge would read empty for a little while even after filling up my gas tank.

It seems to have fixed itself though. It seems correct now on its readings but just to be on the safe side I get gas once a week. I like the controls on the steering wheel, the blinking side mirrors and the black trim around the windows but I can live without it. The only reason I would turn in my 99 430 for a newer year is if I could have a CLK 55 .

I love my 99 CLK430!!!!

Problems I've incountered:

MAS went bad at 51K miles
Driver side seat motor went out at 53K miles
Sun roof noise since 30K miles.... comes and goes...
rear headliner became loose, making very annoying noise at 40K miles, but it was a easy fix, just push it back up... now it becomes loose about every couple of hundred miles...
Passenger window went off the rail at 50K miles.
Dash cracked at 42K miles
Driver seat making noise, started at about 40K miles. comes and goes...

So it would seems that most of the problems came after 50K miles...

If you could, get warranty for it. Or else the repairs will KILL you!!!

Just to replace my dash and seat rail, it was like almost $1000, if I did not have warranty. And I think the MAS is about $500 to replace...

I just picked up a 1999 CLK430 2 weeks ago.

65,000 miles on it.

Haven't run into any flaws yet.

Drives like a dream.

Price seems a little high

My friend just bought a 2000 CLK430 with 26,000 miles on it for $35,000 from a private party.

But WAWY's price of 41,000 is canadian... not US dollars

I have a 99 430 magma red on black...My CLk ts a beautiful car to look at but will has run in to a ton of problems. If you can get one, it MUST have a warranty. ABSOLUTELY must have a warranty, dont even play yourself thinking you will be ok and risk it . Any problem you run in to will be $500+ minimum if it involves a computer or some sort of electronics. Try to get a 2000 or later or at least an extended starmark warranty.
