Transmission problem

I was recently in an accident and my body shop just called saying that my car is able to in reverse, but it won't go in Drive. Does anyone know what the problem might be and the cost to fix it?? I just want to know so I'm not fixing anything more than I might have to.

It could be electronic related. I've heard that the only gears available are reverse and second. Have a look at all of the electrical conectors first. You might get lucky.

What's happening is that it's able to shift, but the car won't go anywhere except in reverse.

I've read somplace that Chrysler and Jeeps do this and I heard about a MB tuner with a similar problem. Try warming the car up to operating temps and then shut it off. Next, turn the key on and off 5 or 6 times. I've heard that this should take the computer out of limp home mode. If it works you just saved some buck and you can owe me. If it doesn't, what have you lost?
