E430 vs. CLK430
I'm curious whether the E430 and CLK430 have the same engine.
Other than the different exterior styling are these really the same car or are we talking apple and oranges here?
thanks.

therefore, if C class is apple, and E-class is orange, then its a split between the two... a crispy apple with an orange peel on the outside?
does this answer your question?

The only engine difference is the airbox.......the e430 doesn't have the twin airfilter setup so it only has 267-8 hp vs the clk's 275 stock. Every other part of the engine is the same I think.

'04 Silverado Z71 - sold all my Benzes and need another!
Since we're talking about the front end, everything is different including the bumper, lights, hood, grill, etc...They are not swapable with the E class W210. I know because I asked and tried the headlight and it didn't fit. I asked about the rest and all of the junkyards and my MB mechanic agreed/verified that they are not swapable...

i don't have kids, rarely travel with more than 1 passenger, so I don't need a sedan. But, for some, 4 doors are better than 2.
I'm sure when I have kids, I'll prefer a 4 door sedan over a coupe. Although, the only MB sedans I'd choose would be either the W211 or W220 with a minimum 5.0 litre V8....

In any case, there was an E-class (E420) back in 1995 that did have 268 hp / 295 lb-ft... the rest of the E430s/430s from 1997 to 2002 all have 275 hp/295 lb-ft

i'm not saying there's something wrong, it's just that some people don't know the exact HPs and they talk (ie. first couple of replies about the 2 air filters instead of e430 one air filter) so i just wanted to confirm it, that the book is right not the guy that replied on the first page with incorrect HP #

WhiteMyst.........numers came directly from a 2000 ml-430 vs a 99 clk-430 and from a local dealer's word of mouth as well. I dunno.....it isn't a huge diff not matter how you look at it.

the ML has the same engine with 268hp and 288 tq. I think it might be caused by exhaust difference for the suv.

no one was talking about exhaust upgrades??? just comparing engines between E430 & CLK430... which led to HP & air filter differences

According to MB, they should have the same engine (size & spec):
2000 S430
-Engine 4,266-cc SOHC 24-valve V-8, high pressure die-cast alloy -cylinder block alloy heads.
-Net power 275 hp @ 5,750 rpm
-Net torque 295 lb-ft @ 3,000-4,400 rpm
-Compression ratio 10.0:1
2000 CLK430
-Engine 4,266-cc SOHC 24-valveV-8, high-pressure die-cast alloy cylinder block, alloy heads.
-Net power 275 hp @ 5,750 rpm
-Net torque 295 lb-ft @ 3,000-4,400 rpm

That is interesting indeed. The specs. are identical as you have listed them. I am curious as to possibly the design of the engine or like you said, the engine cover that would make it to appear larger...

Yeah thats what I said, Actually my neighbor came over bragging about his new S 430 engine and since im shaved he thought i had a 320. So I opened my hood and he was like whats that, im like a v8 , he was like not the same V8 in my car. I was like yes, they are the same just like the E430. SO he said follow me to my car and to my surprise, his engine definitely, looks bigger, I thought it was the CAP also but the engine looks like it takes up all the space under the cap, as if its made to fit. It Definitely looks bigger.
I will try and get some pics but don't wait on me...
