2001 CLK430 80k miles for $8k
Looked at this car last night. http://www.ksl.com/auto/listing/14333018
Obvious mods are wheels, drilled/slotted Brembo brakes (assuming it's not just a Brembo cover on stock calipers), spoilers, strut braces, cold air intake, headlights. It has LEDs in the front bumper. I suspect the suspension, exhaust, and chip are may not be stock, but I don't know enough to tell; this is the first one I've looked at. It's gone through several owners and it's at a dealer so there's not way to get the details unless someone out there knows the car. It spent its first 10 years in Ft. Lauderdale.
The engine seems strong and it sounds good but not overly obtrusive. The driver's A-pillar speaker housing is broken and the following things don't work: sunroof, some driver's seat adjustments, steering wheel adjustment, and a lamp out warning is on. I saw a small amount of rust on the hood. Carfax shows that the crank sensor and brake like switch were replaced in 2005 and flex plate in 2008, but then it says "clutch pilot bearing replaced" in 2009. Is there a similar thing for automatics? It also shows the alternator replaced in 2009.
Normally I shy away from modded cars, but I like most of the mods and for the price it's tempting. It sounds like there is some negotiating room, or I can get them to fix things. They are part of a network that has the largest Mercedes dealership in the state. I would definitely get a PPI if it's worth considering. Any thoughts?
I was looking for an AMG but I've had to drop my expectations. I've had a couple Porsches so am somewhat familiar with German car maintenance but don't know a whole lot about Mercs.
