CLK 320
loss of topspeed on my clk 320

I have a CLK 320 -00

The other night I was driving on the freeway and since there was no other cars around I desided to punch the pedal.

To my big disapointment the car top out at 130mph
it sould top at 150mph

Could this be the result of fitting 18" 235/40 tiers front and back?

I also have the problem whit the check engine light coming on and of. My mercedes dealer registred an error in the air/fule mixture but cant find any wrong whit the car?

Please help

Best Regards
Jonny

CLK 320
I don't think it is the tires, i run 225 40 18 all around, but the 320's in the USA only go to about 135, speed limited. I guess your's should run 150?? I am not sure what the Swedish model is limited at.

As for the error in the air/fuel that does not sound good.

The swedish model is not limited at all the actual top speed is 150mph. Only cars that go faster than 155mph is limited in Sweden (limited at 155mph)

go into the dealers tomorrow morning, and ask for the replacement of your air mass sensor. It should fall under warranty, if not then you will need to dish out about 300 bucks for it!

Then come back to this forum and post me a THANK YOU note!!

ok... it seems that the Euro version of the CLK doesn't have any speed limiters like the US version... all due to this lame issue of tire ratings (& bad drivers )

So... my questoin is... can we just swap out the ECU with that of Euro CLK with the same engine...???

I assume that would be cheaper than to have a VMAX removed from the stock ECU from a local tuner or chipping company... I know there are other benefits to chipping or chip tuning, but, if removing the VMAX is the only concern... is swapping with a Euro CLK model a better/cheaper solution???

I am not so shure that it will work. I know that some european cars donīt have the same spec in the european market as in the American. Take the BMW M3 fo exampel. In the US market it has 240 bhp while in the EU market it has 321 bhp due to rev.limiter difrent exahust system and so on.

So before changing the ECU I recomend that you check the spec whit a MB dealer.

Actually, the Current U.S. spec model M3 (E46, 2001-2003) has a 3.2 litre 333hp engine.... the former U.S. spec M3 (E36, 1995-1999) had a 3.2 litre 240hp engine....

The e36 euro spec must have been one hell of a car, we got shafted engine wise and the e36 m3 (us) is still imho one of the best cars ever made.

for the e36 M3 and the pre 01 M-roadster, we didn't get the (3 liter in 95, 3.2 96-99) 321hp unit because that engine couldn't pass the emission standard. Instead we got a bored out 3.0 liter from the 2.8 in 95 and then it was enlarged to the 3.2 of what most people know about in 96.

well, that may be true. But unless you are me then there's no way you're gonna get a deal of a lifetime that i got last week!!!! Sorry to inform all MBforum memebers that I am no longer a benz boy!

Sold my '00 CLK320AMG with 95,000 miles on the clock for $23,800 and bought a '99 BMW E39 M5 with 60,000 miles on the clock for $27,000 !!!

I have a huge smile on my face now! This thing can fly! I've just ordered air intake, strut bars and ECU upgraded by DINAN!!!

The conclusion is: BENZ is a better investment!

Ahmed... why??? you sold ur CLK? u put so much work into it...

although the M5 is a sweet car though... is '99 the old or current bodel style? I'm inclined to think it is the old body....

swedish cars fall under the same specs as EURO spec cars. We get EURO spec MB's here in the middle east as well. And as far as my experience is concerned... my CLK clocked 250 km/h at 5000 rpm. Which means had the limiter been removed, the rpm would have hit red line and speeds of around 270 km/h ( i think ) would have been attained.

I would need the input of more experienced technical members on this one. How many more km/h's can i get from an additional 1000 rpm in a CLK320?

also remember that EURO spec CLK's (especially the ones sold to hot countries) have very high compression ratios!

converting 250 km/h (needle indication) = 155.325 mph.

250km/h devided by 5000rpm gives you 50km/h per 1000rpm

att 6000rpm your car would do 300km/h

CLK 320
I works exactly that way but the thing is that a stock CLK 320 donīt have the power it takes to push the car to 6000rpm att the 5th gear.

If you tune it would do 300km/h att 6000rpm
