CLK 430
Well.. Since I posted this question...

I feel a little responsible for some of the "heated" discussions that have been going back and forth.. But back to my original question, I was looking for a quick easy solution that didnt involve major work or risk of blowing my warranty (or engine) :p

I looked into air filters, and some ecu mod's and was wondering if they were worth the 25 hp gains.. I just picked up my 430 last week and so far the performance has exceeded my expectations.. but like everything in life.. I want more!

That all...

You will see people paying 20-25.000 $ for the 25 HP you are looking for, at Oberklasse or Renntech and after a dyno test
it's giving 10-20 HP.
With the Kleemann compressor, you will have +160 HP in a 4,3
for what I understand in the US is approx. 16.000 $ installed.

In my opinion this is a tough choice.

1. you can have 20-25 HP for 25 K and void your warranty.
2. You can have 160 HP for 16 K and void your warranty.

In any case, a serious tuning company will take over the drive train warranty, other wise they could only tune old "buckets".

This is really the buttom line and it's a tough choice

Renntech slk 32
RENNTECH misrepresented again

WRONG

For 25K Renntech gives you a 6 Liter 405hp Motor with a 4 year warrentee! As tested by MAJOR car magazines.

For about $3000 you can get a tuning package (chip and Carbon fiber airbox) that adds about 30 hp.

I have no idea about Oberklasse.

Wrong?

As posted on RENNTech website:

6.0L CONVERSION $32,750
High-performance engine rebuild including forged Kolbenschmidt pistons and high-performance camshafts. Power increased 59 bhp to 408 @ 5800, and torque increased 73 lbs.-ft. to 464 @ 2400-5000. This is from the W210 E class page.

$33k for 60hp.

One can always purchase an aftermarket warranty- KLEEMANN chooses not to include this in our price, but the customer can request it. You can be 100% sure that you are in some way paying for any warranty that comes with an aftermarket part of any kind.

Just for comparision: KLEEMANN 55 kompressor installed is $21,750 and gives 540hp @ 6000 and 520 lbs/ft @ 2600-5000. Add a 4 year warranty and the price goes to $23,450.

$24K for 191hp.

So this means you pay $550 per hp at RT and $125 per hp at K. Thats 4.4 TIMES more expensive at RT.

There are plenty of tuning choices for people with MBZ- you will choose the one that makes the most sense to you.

From the RENNTech website, same W210 E class page:

STAGE I, Performance Kit (Hiflow Intake, Computer Software) $5,490
Increase in performance 30 BHP and 30 lbs.-ft.

You seem to have your prices incorrect.

My point was just, no matter what you do it will void the MB warrenty.

*Change to KN air filters and get 1 HP. ( please don't comment)
*Change to RT 6,0 and get X HP.
*Change to K-compressor and get Y HP.

My point was just, no matter what you do it will void warrenty from MB, any serious tuner will give some kind of warrenty, make
your choice and do some thing about it.

Some body ???????

Please show all of us a dyno run from RENNTECH or any body
else ( BRABUS, CARLSSON, ect.ect ), where a car is tested before
and after mods. Please show all of us how a cam can give 30 HP.
This Is BS, it will never give even close.

I have seen KLEEMANN beeing so honest and showed their before
and after results.

If you call up Renntech they will show fax you a dyno of the mods.

They did this for my SLK32, which I put a chip and pulley in. I consistantly run below 13.0 in the 1/4 mile. Much faster than any magazine test....and lets face it, I'm no pro driver.

From the Web site
the Price for the CLK package is $3450
UNTIL MARCH 31, 2002

SPECIAL PRICING ON THE PERFORMANCE TUNING KIT FOR THE CLK55/CLK430 ONLY

INCLUDES CARBON FIBER AIR BOX AND REPROGRAMMED ECU, UP TO 30 HP GAIN

REGULARLY $5490.00 ---------------NOW ONLY $3495

a review of a 6.0 liter can be found here:
http://www.caranddriver.com/xp/Caran...rds=clk&page=1

and Kleemann review here:
http://www.caranddriver.com/xp/Caran...3k.xml?&page=1

So you can see that the RT 6.0 is almost 1 sec faster than the K43 , but it is likely more $$ too. However the K claims more hp. 1 second is a huge difference.

Both are good companies, but the bottom line for me is I can take my car to any mercedes dealer for service and Renntech takes over the MB warrentee on the products it changes. The rest f the car is still warenttee by MB. A much better web site for Renntech parts is the http://www.brumosrenntech.com/ A mercedes dealer that carries a full offering of RT cars and parts. If the dealers sell the parts, I think that spells well for the quality of the product.

There are a lot of companies that make false claims about hp. I dont think RT and K are one of them. RT and K have been in business for over 10 years.

Just my $.02.

I saw before and after dynos of my CLK 430 before I had the MKB hypertune kit (mainly headers and cams) installed by Oberklasse and before and after my Kleemann SC was installed by Evosport. The MKB hypertune kit brought my rear wheel hp up from 225 to around 270. The Kleemann SC brought my rear wheel hp from 270 to almost 400. These are definitely not cheap upgrades, however they are definitely dyno proven.

Lucas, can you tell me where you saw or read this prices along with the performance gains for these companies? It would seem like a company like Renntech would not still be in business if they sold modifications this expensive and only got these kinds of gains. I would hate to think that you might be overstating prices and understating performance of any tuner company available to us and our Mercedes. It sure sounds like the clear choice is "your" Kleemann from your post, but it also seems as if you are not doing companies like Renntech any favors by lying about prices and power gains. Keep you comments in the realm of things that you know, and stay away from the comments that serve you at the expense of others. I give you a "thumbs down"

Snopdog, I am sorry if have steped on your toes ????

I only know prices from the US from freinds who live in the country
or what I see and hear.

I really don't care, I am just saying that you are paying too much
for traditional tuning on your side of the pond.

You can buy 6,0 conversion in Germany for approx. $ 15.000, with
ECU programming, cylinder head work, cams, ect. ect. installed in the car. ( The full pacakage end user price )

I will not up set you by giving prices I didn't check 110%, ( I thing Renntech only charge $ 32.000,- only for the 6,0, none of the other stuff )
lets say Hartmut Farthill ( isen't that the owners name of RT ??)
is well paid for the shipping of parts from Germany ???

It could be, that the parts are much cheaper made in the US, no
transport, no tax. Then I better understand it has to twice the price, mr Farthill must thing Americans are stupid ?????

Thumbs down, who cares +/- a few $$$$
