Rest Navi System?
This morning I found that when use the MAP funtion, the Navi is totally off by almost a mile. Through the trip, the Navi showed that I was driving though the San Francsico Bay.
Is there a mal function in the Navi system? or is there a way to reset the Navi somehow.
Thanks

greetingz,
Later yesterday, I popped out the Navi CD and reinserted it. Then it was functional again.
I think it may be just lack of signal too. It was very cloudy yesterday. I don't know if that would affect the satellite signal.
Mine bounces off the service road then back to the highway sometimes...ah well...
This accuracy setting is controlled by the tax mafia<-Uncle Sam.
I think several years back Clinton allowed civilian GPS's to receive more accurate data....can't remember accurately what the accuracy increase was....hmmmm

What sucks is...we(US) paid for it...now everyone else get's to benefit from it...namely the countries who did not contribute to the cost of the 24 sat. floating up there.
The selective accuracy feature is gone. That's what allowed the new generation of speed sensorless, no inertial nav gyro, car GPS systems. They could "dumb it down" for non-military users but they won't. Too many users, including US commercial aviation, now rely on this accuracy.
In case you were asleep, we have fought a couple of wars lately and didn't mess with the system.
What a military jet, a JDAM bomb, or your car sees is EXACTLY the same. I use military and civilian GPS gear daily so I'm not talking out of my anus like Redbrick. Sitting stationary on the deck a jet's GPS-based position will move around a bit. It used to be worse, even in military systems, but a number of features have made it better for everyone. My car's GPS has 7m accuracy at worst. That won't put you in the bay.
I suspect what happened is that the car may make been stationary for a few days. In that case the satellites have moved a tad since the last reading. This always causes initial errors until the GPS syncs again. I live next to golf course. After a few days of not driving my car, my initial position is on the course. After awhile it corrects itself. An even longer period is required to synch if you have kept the system off and traveled a few hundred miles. Hope this info helps.

I also don't know why you insult me in that manner?
Since you wear the bighat, please enlighten us with a few official links to substantiate your claims. I'm sure you're right.
Finally, in re: to the title of your post, can you substantiate that as well... for our benefit?
Thanks

why with all the hostility? outdated as it may be, it was still information that people may have not known, and may be of interest to others. you shouldn't take it so personal and attack others...
Either case, what would you say, let's drop this issue and exchange cool info/tips/tricks of our fine cars erh?
Thanks for the post, btw.
