Rain sensing wiper question

I have this option on my clk but when I got my front window tinted, the guy pulled off the sensor part that sticks onto the window and I havent been able to get it back on since. Has this happened to anyone else? Iv'e tried a few types of glass glue and none of them see to work effectively or without leaving a disgusting paste which is clearly visible from outside.

The tint does not cover up the part thats tinted so I dont see why it won't stick. What do they use at the factory?

why didn't you just have the tint shop make the tint go around the sensor instead of removing it... i had mine just go around it, and it came out perfect.

Thats what they were suppose to do. They actually did cut around it perfectly but it came off in the process...

When you get the windshield replaced, make sure that you get the same sticker, -

most likely Mercedes-Benz NOT Mercedes-Daimler.

i don't think he needs to replace his windshield... he just needs to reattach the rain sensor back onto the original windshield...

Wait a sec...I thought the rain sensor was that little eyelet just to bottom right of the rear view mirror(seen when standing in front of the car).

You're saying the rain sensor is actually that black matt looking this pasted on the wind shield itself?

Yes, that black box is the sensor. The thing on the windshield is only the space in the windshield for it.

The infrared sensor is the 1/4" black dot - BUILT INTO the WINDSHIELD, - that you see from the outside. It is located in the area in front of the rearview mirror. If the sensor or connection is damaged, the intermittent wiper swipes regularly at the 5 second interval, rain or shine, that is the default.

To test operation, get a spray bottle of water, start engine, turn wiper lever to first setting, and squirt water on the 1/4" dot from the outside, simulating rain.

The more water you squirt, the faster it swipes. If it wipes only once every 5 seconds, the infrared sensor is defective, and most likely requires the windshield to be replaced.

Having said that, I hope that the connection can be re-established, but .... sorry if replacement is required.

You guys don't understand. The sensor works , the connection is fine .... IT JUST WONT STICK ON TO THE WINDOW. It keeps falling off. What kind of glue do they use to keep it pasted on to the window.????

You can buy glue for glass mounted rear view mirrors in most auto part stores. Give that a try.
