What was your car before you started to drive that CLK....
I drove Audi A6 before and I notice the same thing...
A6 seems to be much more quiter then the CLK...but mine is not that nosiy.
CLK does have a little road noises but it shouldn't be irritating.....You can check the rubber seal around the doors or check if your grandma put snow tires on the car...

Yeah...
If you have driven Audis before CLK you will notice the noise...
I think it is normal....if you don't see any obvious problems..
But then again compared to Honda accords and camery, CLK seems quiter....
I guess MB made the CLK modle that way so that you can hear the roll of the engine better.....E class that I have been was really quite like A6

my clk has been usually quite quiet when i punch it... now that i put on an aftermarket exhaust, its a different story
the clk is a little more susceptable to road noises because it also doesn't have a frame on top & on the side of the window like sedans do, which means the seal is not as tight.

I might have used the wrong term "roar"...
I hear this whistling sound from a low tone to higher tone as I accelerate my car from 0-3K RMP. It's very subtle but distinctive sound. I like it pretty much and I think MB might have cut down some insulation so that the driver can feel and hear the sound of the engine. Gives it more of a sports car feel....
I also heard that when the engine makes a sound when the RPM hits 3000 but quite when is below gets a high mark on Auto ratings. I don't know if this is true but that is what I heard..
It's because the driver can tell when to switch gears....(manual) so the automatic cars gets build the same way.
I mean E class is quieter then the CLK....I think..(some one back me up on that please).

2001 CLK 320
I noticed that road/wind noise in my car occurs mostly from the passenger side window. The driver side is completely sealed and quiet (for the most part).
I figured the pass. side window needed to be reseated or something. I took it in to MB Service (b/c the noise is noticeably coming from the pass. side), but it's still there.
