Grinding noise from wheels

What up everybody!!This is my first post ever but I've been browsing this forum for a while now and it's been of great help.Used a lot of the comments on a friend's W210,was waiting till I got my own so I could join in.Die hard MB fan.At long last I got myself a 98" CLK320 with 160 miles on it,all Lorinser, body, exhaust, shocks.Just love it. I've only had it for a month and noticed that the steering vibrates at exactly 60mph so I had my friend's mechanic have a look at it and the guy said it's the ball joint and so I told him to change it,and the car was riding so low and here in the UAE,that will get you a $400 fine so I agreed to have spacers put in.I left the garage, had the wheels alligned, balanced and joined the highway and the vibration is still there, not as much as it was but still there. And the other thing I noticed is this grinding noise that came from the left wheel.I went back the next day and told the guy what happened and he said it must be the drive shaft that's causing the vibration and as for the grinding noise, the rear tire on the right was scrubbing against the mud guard on the inside and so we fixed that and after I left there's still that grinding noise.Had the car jacked up at a gas station and had it thoroughly checked but couldn't see any of the tires making contact with the body.I called the guy but he keeps telling me not to worry about it.I apologize for the 3k word report but Could it be something serious?I would really appreciate any inputs from you guys. Thanks

Without more info/history, I'll venture a guess with wheel bearings or brake pads. The vibration could be the driveshaft, but there are other more common areas to look first like the LCA bushings. At any rate, if your mechanic finds a grinding noise nothing to worry about, you may want to start shopping for a new mechanic!

Thanks. My thoughts exactly.I'll get the bushings and the drive shaft checked out somewhere else ASAP.

Not to sure but you may want to also consider having the tires balanced. A vibration at a specific speed to me points to tires in my experience. If the vibration is in the steering wheel, then it would be the front tires. If it feels like the whole car then it would be the rear tires. Also the grinding noise is something that should take front and center here. I have to agree with the OP in that most likely could be wheel bearings. Does the noise change in pitch as speed increases? And is it coming from the front or the rear. As these cars are IRS cars then you may want to consider half shafts in that as well. Hope this helps.
