Timing Chain replacement ?

I beleive our cars have a timing chain and was wondering should I be getting this replaced for preventative maintenance as my car has reached 135K miles now?
Also can this be a DIY job?
thanks

Years ago in the 90's I had a sweet Mercedes 190E but sadly I never replaced the chain tensioner and the chain came off, it was a single chain and the engine was ruined.
All I need to find out now if someone knows if my 2000 year 230K CLK has a double chain or not?
thanks

I am going to put one in my CLK55 this summer, It can be a do it your self job.
I am going to post a DIY while performing the service. The chain tensioner gives more problems and should be replaced as well.
As others have posted, the chain failure will take out the engine.

I got mine changed at 200.000 since I got oil replaced and it started giving some weird
ticking noise when accel.. Got it change the old chain was 5cm longer than the new chain and the little tick noise went away.....
They do say it is supposed to last forever lol
but also advise to change at around 200.000 km..
I would say if you dont experience any problems or any noise then you can easily wait dont mind or worry about it, I drove aprox 600km each weekend for 3 months forth and back due to work,,, nice trip by they way highway all the way and well no problems on the road..
The m112 is bulletproof unless the chain snaps.. ;-)
