2001 Clk 430 Thermostat Fan stuck?

Hello everyone,

My girl got a 2001 Clk 430 and this morning all of a sudden the thermostat fan just got stuck. All this week it seemed to be hitting what appears to be the plastic case that the fan is in. It would make noise every morning when the car is turned on for a minute but once in gear it discontinues. She started it this morning and it did the normal making noise but she called me to check it also. I told her to turn the car off and just shifted around the plastic case. It seems nothing was in the way or blocking the fan. When the car started, the fan seemed to have a hard time spinning. And after 2-3 times of turning the car off and on, it now appears to be very stiff and hard to turn the fan now. By any of your expertise, what could this problem be? Water pump, thermostat fan clutch bad, thermostat relay? I am stumped and I am calling my mechanic like crazy for the past 3 hours now and he is partying on a boat in Mexico. So much for dependability...lol Anyhow, I would really appreciate any one of your suggestions. Thanks for any help!

2002 CLK430
Sounds like either the water pump (it may be leaking from the weep hole) or the fan clutch.

2001 Clk 430
Thanks MarcusF! I finally got a hold of my mechanic and his diagnosis of the car was that the water pump locked up. It's about that time anyway for all kinds of parts to be replaced on this Benz, it made 200,000 miles about 2 weeks ago. Thanks once again!
