I only have 1 key for my 2000 CLK 430 i was looking on ebay, and found keys for my car. but I don't know how to program them. Does anyone know how to program a key for clk. I dont want to go to the dealer for this.

 

Many people have made the mistake of thinking they can get a key programed by buying one off ebay. Unfortunately this is not possible. The only benefit of buying a key off ebay is if your key is cracked or worn, as you can replace the inside with your workign key.

But for a new key its only Mercedes that can provide them, they are not that dear I think about £150 / $250

The keys are very costly from MB. As they are the only place to get them I guess they can charge what they want. I was quoted even more than the price below when I checked on them. I'm going to go ahead and buy one because I think my key (not my battery) is going to die one of these days, plus I like the chrome one.

Thats just amazing how Mercedes gets away with that!$250 for a key!

 

Actually, that cost is not so far out of line. We recently needed a replacement key for our Camry Hybrid and were quoted $175 since we were out of warranty on all but the emissions equipment and main battery bank. Best--Carl

 

Remeber thats UK prices they may be cheaper in the US. I know friends have had to change Volvo keys at £180. Remember its not a key its the whole coding circuit and they have to make the key for each request.

 

I am at the MBZ dealership now for a quick maintenance checkup and inquired. My service manager had mentioned before and just confirmed $270.USD for a key. The keys are in fact programmed and shipped from one place in Texas.

 

You can have them programmed by someone other than the dealer... It's called a vehicule locksmith... Just lookup the ones in your area that can do it for luxury vehicules...
