CLK430 soft top problems
thanks for your separate message. I didn't see your post before now - we are in peak season and I don't have much time for browsing forums... :-)
I would be surprised if only the temperature sensor in the pump was bad, but it is certainly included in our rebuild/upgrade service. http://www.tophydraulicsinc.com/en/w...ulic-pump.html The temperature sensor is inside the electric motor, and it usually goes bad only when the motor burns out (because everything in the motor starts melting, including solder, plastic, and sometimes even the copper windings). That means, we will probably have to replace all the guts of the electric motor inside your pump (outside of our regular rebuild/upgrade of the pump). The motor on the CLK pump is unique, and it cannot be purchased separately.
The most common reason for the electric motor on the pump failing is a stuck relay. We always install new, proper, high-current relays with the pumps, by the way. The following link includes directions for access to the pump and relay: http://www.tophydraulicsinc.com/W208...eplacement.pdf. Removing the pump from the car is easy, once you have followed the above guide to get access to the pump. Unplug the electrical connector, remove the socket head bolts from the retaining plate for the hydraulic lines, pluck out the lines, unbolt the pump from the car - done! Don't forget to drain the fluid before shipping the pump. Protect the white cone on the relief valve, although it's not terrible if that one gets crushed.
BTW, we ship inside the US double-boxed inside a USPS Priority Mail Large Flat Rate Box for $15. We prefer to ship in the same box internationally, because the international rates on USPS Flat Rate Boxes are hard to beat.
The following part numbers apply to W208 CLK hydraulic pumps:
2088001048 aka A 208 800 10 48 (early model years)
2088000230 aka A 208 800 02 30 (intermediate model years)
2088001748 aka A 208 800 17 48 (all models starting with VIN -070018)
Last I heard, Mercedes does not sell new CLK pumps in the US - what you get from the dealer is a core exchange for a rebuilt pump at some insane 4-digit figure. $7k is about the highest I have heard, and the highest numbers usually come from Canadian customers.
