Trim around the windows

Hello all,

The trim around my windows is that brushed bronzy looking color (I forget the name of it but it was a trim option) and I don't care for it. To me it doesnt look as if if is supposed to be that color even though it is. Looks like it used to be chrome but faded to what it is now. (That is not the case but thats what it looks like to me).

Considering the look of my car I would prefer the chrome trim that comes around the windows on the 320. The dealer has it priced really, really high for that trim and each time I find some at a junk yard it is not in good shape. That and I have no clue how to remove it.

Do you think I could have my stock trim chromed for a reasonable cost since its not very much mass? I'll keep looking for a 320 with some good shape chrome for now.

Any ideas how to remove the trim?

Thanks.

I don't think the wrap would look good because my car is not blk and I have no other blk trimmed pieces.

If the car was blk or red or silver, etc I could see it. I dunno, I guess its another option.

Thanks to you both for the replies. Hopefully a few others will chime in with their thoughts.

Since the majority of people I've seen posting about that on here don't like the chrome and would rather have the sleeker alternative, you might have good luck finding someone with a 320 and swapping it with them.

It's funny, I always try to take as much chrome as possible off of the car. To each their own.

Yeah thats a good idea to find someone to swap with.

I personally love chrome on cars, always have. I really love it on my Coupe. Most guys my age are into chrome. I'm no spring chicken lol. But you nailed it, to each his own.

For me it depends on the car. A lot of classic cars look amazing with the chrome piled on. For newer sleeker designs, I feel that the lines of the car stand out better when chrome is used judiciously. Variety is the spice of life, though. I would hate for everyone to have the exact same taste as me; seeing how people personalize their cars is half the fun of car culture. :0)

I didn't like the wrap as it kept getting spots on it after a wash or rain so I took the trims off and removed the rubbers and had them powder coated in satin black.

Jkidd33, I like what you did on the window trim. 2 things. What material did you use (trim brite?). Also can you post a couple up close shots for us? Thanks buddy

I like the trim on my 430 but have used trim-brite on several other cars I've owned. It's more durable than you'd think and if applied properly, you can usually do it without any seam lines and unless you park your car out in severe weather all the time, it holds up relatively well. I've had it on one car for years and it still looks fine, and once it doesn't, it's a short time in the shade to re-do it. Oh and a roll is like $5.

Word, thanks Josh...I don't hate the black chromish looking trim on my 430 either but it has a lot of chipping and looks kinda ruff so covering it would be an easy solution. Do you know if the big box stores or maybe autozone carry it?

Close Up

Gundo:
My guy used ProBond...With normal 3m Gloss Black Vinyl.

I've never use TrimBite So I couldn't tell you anything about it.

Here's some close ups.

It was a nice, affordable, solution to the fading Window Trim.

Autozone and Pep Boys should have it. If not you can find it online pretty easily. It depends on the look you want. Jkidd's solution will give you a gloss black, Trim-Brite will give you a less glossy satin black.

Looks very nice as I knew it would on a black car. Maybe I'll check into having mine painted the same color blue as my car. Worth a shot to ask about it anyway.

Those who've wrapped.... Did you use actual Di-Noc? or Knockoff. Did you use adhesive primer (3M 88) or just a a good clean with alcohol or mineral spirits? I've wrapped most of the wood in my interior and it holds up pretty well, I'm just curious as I am looking a wrapping my bronze-ish chrome, not because I don't like it, in fact I love it, but, the two drip rail covers that run front to back on the roof of my Black Opal Metallic have lost the clear coat, before I even bought it.. The rest of my paint is in pristine condition, but the rails are shot. I was looking to wrap them, but I would also like to wrap other pieces to match. I'm considering the trim, and the mirrors due to my car being a commuter for now. I plan on purchasing a commuter in a year or so, but I'm sick of my mirrors taking a beating. Here's by baby, picture was taken Monday. For those curious, Mequiars Scratch 2.0, then Mothers 3 Stage, and Surf City Black Detail Spray and Tire Shine. Second Picture shows roof rail with clear coat issues.
