Switches on ? ( or off ? )
I have a question regarding my 2001 CLK 320; I've heard that
driving with the ESP switch ON, puts an additional load on the engine/transmission.
Except for the current wet spell here in Los Angeles, most of my
driving is done in dry conditions. My operating handbook explains the ON and
OFF features, but says nothing about putting a strain on engine or transmission when ESP is activated.
Am I missing the big picture here ?

ESP doesn't do anything for the most part except monitor... It will step in when necessary, and the triangle will appear on the dash. This will happen in a few instances... The car senses oversteer or understeer, or loss of traction during acceleration. It can put strain on the engine if you are constantly launching hard and the brakes are trying to keep the car from wheelspin, but even then, the car cuts engine power.... So, I doubt it will ever adversely affect the drivetrain. Note that the default position is on, and when you press the button, you are turning the system off.

Thanks Scott, I happened to be watching a demonstration of ESP on
you tube just as you replied to my question. Now I understand it's
function and plan to leave it in the "ON" position.
Being this is my first MB, I feel it's a Good news, Bad news kind of thing;
The good news is, I have a Mercedes.
The bad news is, why did I wait so long !
