My 2.3 2001 CLK has developed an annoying rattling sound near the midsection. Looking underneath, the heatshield from above the exhaust midsection has become detached, and is rattling around resting on the top of it.
I can see circular holes on the shield, and the built in rusty bolts from the chassis they attach through.
ANY part that will fix the problem will do. Can anyone please direct me to one via a link, or detail part numbers or measurements. I'm thinking a few correctly sized bolts, and some oversized washers should do the trick. Alternatively, any form of clip that might work i'll be happy to try. I've also heard there are "star" washers with teeth that grip screws. A few of these correctly sized would also do nicely. Many thanks.

I had this issue to and ended up just finding a close fitting nut and then screwing this with a large washer onto the thread which is attached to the car.
