My cabrio suddenly gave up on me

Hi!
I´m new to the forum and have searched for a thread about my problem but didn´t found one that fitted the symptoms.

Okay, here is my situation: I had my 1999 CLK cabrio in a heated garage for winter storage. Yesterday when i took it out for a ride (temp was about -6 degrees Celsius) but the roof was totally dry. However, the roof went all way down, and all way up. But when I released the "cabrio" button to fasten the roof in the a-pillar, it started to blink. Now the roof won't answer any comands, the button just blinks. Sometimes when I hold the button up I hear the roof elecrical engine make a noise for a second but then everyting is silent again and nothing moves.
I heard it could be the relay to the roof engine, but since the temperature was pretty cold when i operated the roof. Could some mechanical part have taken damage or can it be so that the roof just have got stuck somehow?
I'm really thankful for any suggestions!

My 02 CLK 430 Cab has been reliable, however, the plastic cover for the roof, as it sits in the trunk, can be bumped and left ajar. This will affect the cabrio function.

It's not the most insiteful suggestion, but be sure the roof guard inside the trunk is secure.

Good luck

Welcome to the forum! Where are you located?

The worst part about moving the top in freezing temperatures is the strain put on the fabric. While it is a little harder for the pump to move the colder hydraulic fluid, -6C (low 20s Fahrenheit) is still within the design criteria for the hydraulic system. This may all be a coincidence, and the relay or the pump may have been on their way to failure already, or some micro switch in the system decided to fail or get dislodged just at this point. Follow Redcab's suggestion of checking the micro switch on the cargo divider in the trunk.

Make sure that the rear bow lock is latched all the way - that may help you in getting rid of the blinking for now. You can access it from the trunk. It locks down the rear bow (rear window section). You can use the 6-mm Allen wrench on the soft top tool p/n 2088990800 for latching the rear bow lock p/n 1247700426 completely. Consult your owner's manual for that.

1) Check the 40A fuse for the pump motor.
2) Check the hydraulic fluid level.
3) Check the hydraulic pump relay 002 542 13 19 by using the fuel pump relay instead.

Consult the relevant pages in the following DIY instructions for checking the hydraulic fluid level and for access to the pump. http://www.tophydraulicsinc.com/W208...eplacement.pdf The relay is mounted on the pump. See in the picture below, just under the TH logo.

Okay many thanks for the suggestions! I live in Sweden, therefore the cold temperature.
I´m suspecting the micro switch or the bow lock. Will look into that asap.
I´ll keep in touch!
