2000 CLK430 purchase?
Hi all,
I have a chance to buy a 2000 CLK430 coupe with 86,000 miles. The interior and the exterior are in immaculate condition. They are asking $5700 but will probably take $5000. Any thoughts, potential problems, etc. Good buy? Thanks in advance for any help.

^ Great video series. There's about 10 of them that are really informative. As another person said, get a pre purchase inspection. Have the car put up on a lift by a mechanic and looked over for leaks, accidents, rust, and replaced items. Carfax and Autocheck are for the uninformed public unless you want to see how many owners and where the car came from. Only accidents through the dealership or insurance show up on Carfax. Auction houses intentionally sell damaged cars to car lots to avoid showing up on vehicle history reports. Many poorly repaired cars that didn't go through insurance for the auto repair don't show up.

I got burned on a car because I didn't do a CarFax. When I went to sell it, someone else did and found out it really had about twice the mileage showing on the dash by looking at the service record history, there was no denying the discrepancy. It looked good mechanically though. Also, my CLK430 had the cluster replaced (dead pixels) and CarFax showed me that the mileage had a discrepancy, which was discussed with the previous owner before purchase. So I say it's definitely worth $30 to pull this type of report on any car you are spending thousands to buy.
