CLK 430 V8 CABRIOLET (ROOF PROBLEMS) PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!
hi there i have just got a clk 430 v8 convertable. it has some issues with the roof ,it wont go up or down unless done manually, and for the first time i put it down and up i had problems with the windows, rollbars, mirrors wouldnt work AT ALL, i had to leave the back windows open over night as they wouldnt go up,next day i put the roof back down, i then drove it up the road and the windows ect started to work. i know a fair bit about the car, i dont believe its any thing to do with the hydrolic pump ,the controll module, or a micro switch as you can sometimes hear it attempting to move but my only knoledge is through google. i also have the wrong battery it is a 400amp ,ive had that looked at (not by a specialist) who said that shouldnt be the problem?? is there anyone out there who can help or advize me with this problem

daddysank....welcome to the forum.
The power roof is very complex and it's operation involves an electronic controller, hydraulic pump/motor/relay, 7 hydraulic cylinders, 15 or more limit/position switches, tension cables and that other sub systems (e.g. windows and roll bar) are operating properly.
The W208 convertibles are now 12 - 16 years old and the power roof can be problematic.
The most common failures seem to be leaking hydraulic cylinders, the motor relay, a broken or misaligned position/limit switches and broken wiring harnesses.
If you have good trouble-shooting/repair skills. there is a ton existing DIY information in the forum (e.g. search is your friend).
I know it's a pain, with many dead ends due, due to numerous new members asking for help on a topic that has been already, thoroughly been covered.
From your description, a very good place to begin would be to carefully read through this thread.

Alternatively, the STAR diagnostic software, available at MB dealers and some independent mechanics, can be used to further diagnose and/or repair the problem.

2002 CLK 55 AMG cabriolet Eurocharged
Rite as rain Serendipity,
Some basic first glimpse checks are:
Luggage protector closed, Trunk closed,
Headrest down.
Check all fuses there are 4 fuse boxes, replace any distorted fuses as well.
Hydraulic fluid level.
Study the owners manual for operation if available.
Is your car rusted from the salt? I have a chum from suffix but cannot remember if he was by the ocean
Gator
