Is this an aftermarket head unit and if so, what brand and model?

I use one of these and stuff the cable around the unit so you don't see it. Cheap and it works.

For the US market, the OE Audio 10 (CD changer) and Audio 30 (head unit) were both manufactured by Alpine and Becker and they both look exactly alike. You can tell the difference by the part numbers. The Alpine head units are part numbers 208 8210 11 86 and 208 820 05 86. The Becker head units are part numbers 208 820 01 86 and 208 820 10 86. I don't know the CD changer part numbers and have no idea what ROW cars received. USB attached can on a string?

I don't have much faith in anyone connecting a modern cell phone to this archaic equipment without spending more than a new Bluetooth equipped head unit would cost. Many threads have been started and cover the topic. Here's a "how to" link and here's "this is why you want a new head unit" link.

If you want a cheap solution, I have used a wired FM modulator on many cars. It hooks to 12V power and plugs inline with your antenna behind the radio. You tune the radio to a certain channel like the FM transmitter you have, but the quality is much higher because the signal is directly wired to the antenna line. It's the best you can do without replacing the head unit or buying some adapter that will probably cost more than a new head unit and the PAC OEM-2 adapter.

Just search Amazon, etc. for FM Modulator. It gives you a generic 3.5mm headphone jack, like an AUX input on newer cars.

If the car has command then there are options from autotoy.com for fiber interface connections. (pricey)

If it is a basic cassette deck then replacement of the head unit is recommended. Car stereos are reasonably priced these days.

I use a bluetooth dongle that plugs into auxillary port in the glove box, It has worked for phone calls while sitting in the driveway etc. I heart radio streams perfect. this was from newegg.com.

For steering wheel controls you will have to spend.
