Re: How much have you spent modding your car?

Base Car: 2002 CLK430 Coupe
Mod Cost: ~$10,000
Mods: Lorinser DTM, COMAND retrofit, OE Xenon retrofit, 19" AMG CL wheels & tires, Brabus suspension, Eisenmann race exhaust, V1 radar detector

Next mod: Big Brake Kit (Brembo, StopTech, ???) [/B][/QUOTE]

I would love to see photos of your vehicle. I am actually i the process of finding a 2002 clk- which I have never stopped regretting selling- and having it tuned. I have always been a huge fan of the Lorinser kits. Do you mind posting some shots of your vehicle? Thanks

Hey Benzo,
How's the V1 detector? I'd like to get one, but not sure if I can.

Are you allowed to have a detector in CA? Do most have one? Are the cops strict with them?

Uh... actually the list on his post are the mods on my car...

neways... the V1 to me has been pretty good... don't get much opportunity to do spirited driving, but when it does, it works very well... I'm in So Cal too, and the cops don't really care... Obvisouly, if they pull you over for speeding and they see your radar, they aren't gonna believe you when you say "I was going at the speed limit"...

Its prefertly legal here, so don't worry about that either

My old car, which I had a lexus IS300, i calculated, I have spent about $16,000, and i sold that car about a month ago

.....NOW i told myself that when i was gonna get my new w209, I would keep it pretty much stock...haha yeah right. I even bought the rims before I even bought the Car... within one month I bought/ordered

Iforge wheels ~$4,000
Brabus Bodykit ~$2,150
AMG sides ~$750
Quad Exhaust system ~$1,300
H&R suspension ~$700
---------------
=$8,900

All this done to my car, and i still dont even have my DMV plates yet. I think, once you start, you cant really stop...Its like drugs.... Plus I believe there are many more things for me to do. oh well......

I think it's around $21K in mods.... mostly stereo.... My first mistake...

Can't say I've seen too many CLKs with a Carlsson suspension setup...

what kind of drop does it give? How's the ride? You have any pics??

At the time, H&R and Bilstein didn't have anything for CLK which leave me no choice to go Carlsson. I have no idea how many inch it lowers, but the gap between the fender and tire is one finger. The ride is comfortable, IMO. I haven't ride in one with H&R cupkit or Bilstein+H&R setup so I can't compare them. I don't have a picture of the suspension itself....I have the box in my garage, but I guess that is not what you want to see!!
