Thinking of buying '02 CLK55.....need feedback
Out the door for $51,000....
I was told by a service Director friend not to touch it w/out having it Starmarked.
Thoughts on price?
Thoughts on Starmarking ($)?
Problems to be aware of with this model??
Thanks!!
Thinking of buying a 2002 CLK55 with 20,000 miles on it. I can get it for approx $46,000 USD. I'm in California so there's all kinds of fees (8.25% sales tax!#$%@! being main hit). It's had one owner and in excellent condition.

my thoughts, its a 2002 MY, so all the glitches are pretty much worked out, so should be problem free... my '02 is pretty trouble free...
as for price... is this a private sale or from a dealer of some sort? Well, either case, that is a great price... if its a private sale, see if the owner is willing to mark down the price ON PAPER so you pay less tax... maybe along the lines of like $40,000???
the CLK55 is a beast and you shouldn't pass it up...

Bottom line...even if you have to re-negotiate the price, get the Starmark extended warranty (for as many years out as possible - if you plan on keeping the car a while). If you have a problem, you're covered. These cars (as all newer MBs do) have a lot of computers in them. If you have to replace one or two out of warranty, it will get expensive fast.
Bear in mind, Starmark does not cover certain things like COMAND or some other components.
Inherently, these high-performance cars are very durable and will give you years of pleasure, but you just do not know how the previous owner treated that example. Best to be 'on the safe side' IMO.
Most everything with an AMG part number will run you 3X what "normal" parts are, if you are paying retail (examples - front brake pads are $300 plus installation; AMG harmonic balancers cost nearly 10 times what the same part costs for the V6). I spoke with a Service Manager yesterday who told me a 55 (non supercharged engine) costs almost $40,000 to replace with a new one.
Good tires are expensive too.
To me.....the added expense is worth every penny and most here would agree.
If this car tickles you the way it has me, I say GO FOR IT! Enjoy
The car is only 2 years old which still has 2 yrs of warranty left even if it's not Starmarked, so I wouldn't really worry about it. The only way you can get a Starmarked vehicle is from a MB dealership which very often they jacked up the price on the used car so that people will think it's a better deal buying a brand new car.
like Chappy said, if you really like what you've see, get it.
