I got into a car accident yesterday where I rear ended someone who slammed on their breaks due to the person in front of them. Any recommendations on where ican get a hood, grill, and possibly radiator, coolant box for my car? It's a 2002 black clk 430. I'll post the pic later of the damage
Hope you're physically OK. For car parts, you may want to try Potomac or Sun Valley. Silver Star Recycling in Fresno might be able to help, but I don't know anyone who has used them.
You can also try ebay, autohaus AZ should have good prices on the parts under the hood.
I'd say look for part outs on the forum but I was really screwed by a member on here with their part out. I bought parts sight unseen based on the sellers description. Not only were they late and not properly packaged but the suspension parts were bent and not even worth using. Had to fight over Paypal and only got part of my money back.
I wouldn't buy without pics of the parts before hand.
thanks you guys! I posted the pic of my damage. Whats a rough estimated quote you guys think it would cost to fix this? And are there any good shops in seattle that will not rape you on prices?
and @2precise, what kind of "rad assembly" do you have?
Well I called all the local junkyard places and none of them seem to have any front parts for my car...I had the mercedes benz parts place call back and tell me they have a front bumper they're willing to let go for $1200 shipped...but that was way too much than what I had anticipated... if anyone knows or has parts please let me know!
I wouldn't get Duraflex. You'll regret it later. It's a fiberglass bumper that has a very high chance of not fitting well. On top of that it is not flexible like the factory flexible plastic bumper. Road debris or a parking lot bump might ruin it.
the guy told me this was on his W208 CLK 55, so it will fit my 2002 clk 430 right? also, he said there was a crack in the front bumper and its shown in the pic. he told me a body shop should fix it for about $50-75. does that sound about right?
he also has a hood that was on his CLK 55 as well, this should be able to fit my clk 430 also right? he said the bottom of the hood, the seam is detached. shouldn't be a problem yeah?
I don't know a body shop that would want to touch that front bumper for any amount of money. On the car the gaps are off and it's misshapen in addition to its multiple visible cracks. It wouldn't surprise me if it was missing most of its mounting points too. To top it off it has headlight washers and your original bumper does not have them.
The hood could be useable. I'd be a little leery of its quality after the seller tried to sell you a bumper that's no good.
If you find a good car restoration shop or shop that specializes in custom body work they may be able to patch your original bumper. Yours looks to fit better visually than the one you were looking at.
I'm probably too late to add this but for what it is worth... I completed the same repair on my daughter's W208. I bought used parts and prepped them for paint and had a Mercedes body shop do the paint. The results were fantastic but there is a gotcha... I wouldn't buy used parts again. The amount of prep work I had to do was ridiculous. The bumper is very difficult to prep. It also has numerous plastic spring tabs that connect various parts. If the spring tabs have lost their spring then parts don't stay on. I ended up buying a new hood because the used one had subtle defects that would have required body filler. The body shop recommend against body filler on the hood and I agreed.
If I have to do something similar again I will buy new parts and save the hassle. I will still do the grunt work myself and work with the MB body shop for paint.
Unfortunately there are no after-market body panels for this car, and of course, the original MB parts are crazy expensive. I would avoid that guy trying to sell you junk parts off a car that looks terrible. I agree your bumper looks less damaged than that black one, it's probably repairable for less cost than buying the new MB part. Front bumpers are hot commodity on these cars because everyone tears up the bottom lip. Just do a search and tons of threads come up "need bumper" etc. Any after-market bumpers for these car are fiberglass, and need a significant amount of custom fabrication labor to fit properly, but it might be cheaper to pay for a cheap bumper and labor than new MB parts if you find someone willing to work with it.
The hood will be expensive unless you find a used one, preferably in the same color so you don't have to paint it. The radiator and mechanical parts are easy.
If you call around to big national junk yards and "recyclers" they can locate your parts and get them shipped in. Like LKQ. If you go to a body shop and get an estimate, they should have contacts with the appropriate places to get parts, let them help you.
