Dead dash pixels
Hi all, I am in need of a repair for my dash as some of the pixels are dead, I have read a few post on this and it seems most people have a disaster when trying to fix them, could someone try to lead me in the right direction for a repair.

Have used them...I'm in Massachusetts, so I dropped it off. Fixed and never had a problem since.

There is a gent on ebay offering the service, It is in California.
Check with your local spedo shop in Australia if applicable. I tried the taping method in the video with poor results but was using a very old new ribbon.
Next attempt will be with a heating tool affixed to a soldering iron. It is a lousy setup.
I carfaxed my veichle @ a friends lot and found the head was replaced by the dealer for this problem. now evident again. If you buy used it may require flashing by the dealer. Cannot confirm this.

For a pre-2000, I'd recommend taking it apart and having a look. It can't be tougher than lining up the clock/gear selector ribbon on 2000+ models. Having been down that road, I highly recommend taking a photo with a good digital camera or marking the current ribbon's exact position.

I'm an advocate of taking pictures of stuff before taking it apart. Thanks for the tip. I may try the $30 ribbon cable first, then go from their.

I've fixed mine as well as 2 of my buddies using the t-iron soldering bar with Teflon insert. It's not too complicated but must have patience when doing this. Also don't forget to clean contacts thoroughly after you remove the old ribbons so new ones completely adhere and have solid contact. I use acetone for cleaning prior to soldering new ribbons on. Also make sure the ribbons attach identically to how the old ones were lined up both one the circuit board and the LCD's (which is much trickier than on the CB).
If anyone needs a set of cables I bought a bunch of them and have 3 new sets I don't need for 2000+ clks with the 3 rectangle displays like the one in pelican parts video. They are quality and have adhesive backing which creates a strong bond after heated (no need for tape). $25 shipped per set. 2 for $45 in case you mess up.

I haven't gotten around to taking mine apart yet (it just came out of storage yesterday). Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but is there a particular reason for replacing the ribbon if the connection on either side is the problem? This will be evident once I've taken it apart I'm sure but I was just wondering.
