Vibrations in Steering Wheel
2001 CLK 430 with 70k miles, I just bought brand new Continentals DWS all the way around, local Lincoln Dealer balanced the tires, it has a vibration in the steering wheel, just like a unbalanced tire. Anyone have this problem?? I thinking maybe shocks?? These are 15 yrs old. Any input is much appreciated.

OK, after reading on forum for past hr or so, I going to check flex disc, and motor mounts, changing rotors and pads in close future, drive car to the store and back the front wheels are filthy. The car has set for last 6-7 yrs, guy had cancer and never drove it. I bought at estate sale. Replace good looking tires as they had bad flat spots.

I would start by lifting the car and checking the suspension for vertical and horizontal play. If that checks out, next check the inside of the wheel for bends.
flex disc- doubtful
motor mounts- would cause vibration at idle only
rotors and pads- you would only feel a warped rotor under braking
- Jack car up and see if wheels spin freely to rule out stuck caliper
The cheapest/free fix is to tighten your steering gear bolts in drivers wheel well
If you check vertical and horizontal play you might find a bad drag link or front bushings
-Many w208's are driving around with shot steering dampers. This will make steering vague but likely not cause vibration. It literally takes 15 min to change.

+1 - probaby a bushing or ball joint has dried and cracked.
Tighten the steering box bolts. The shocks are cheap and pretty easy if you have any mechanical knowledge since they are separate from the springs. Also drop one side of the horizontal steering stabilizer shock and check for resistance, or just order a new one and replace as it is very cheap too.
